Dr. Reza Nekovei

Professor of Electrical Engineering

Reza Nekovei is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Previously, he was with the Remote Sensing Laboratory at the University of Rhode Island (URI) working on a joint MIT, URI project to design and develop interoperable protocols for scientific data (OPeNDAP).

Prof. Nekovei has been conducting research in the field of Micro/Nano scale integrated circuit design for over 15 years, including modeling of circuits for nano-electronic devices. He has also been involved in the design and fabrication of over 100 integrated circuits. Dr. Nekovei has received over two million dollars of funding for his research and development work from state, federal, and international agencies.

In 2008, he received the prestigious University’s Distinguished Teaching Award for his decade long work on teaching by design.

In 2009, he was a Fulbright fellow in Romania at Bucharest Polytechnic University where he performed collaborative research on high performance circuits for numerically complex computation.

In 2012, 2014, and 2018, he was the recipient of the Dotterweich College of Engineering Dean’s Teaching Award, Dotterweich College of Engineering Dean’s Research Award, and Engineering Professor of the Year, respectively. Dr. Nekovei is also the faculty adviser for TAMUK Robotics Club.

Teaching:  Dr.  Nekovei has supervised over 50 master thesis projects to completion. His teaching areas include: Nano/Microelectronics, Very-large-scale integration, Application-specific integrated circuits, Field-programmable gate arrays, Hardware description language (VHDL, Verilog), Embedded systems on a chip, and Reconfigurable computing.

Research and Scholarship: Current funding includes interdisciplinary robotics and nano-electronics both funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and silicon nanowire photovoltaic funded by the Qatar Research Foundation. He is an active member of IEEE and a member of Eta-Kappa-Nu Honor Society.  He is presently a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Computers and IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, and member of IEEE/GRSS and DAD/GRSI technical committees.

Research Interest:  Integrated Circuits, Rapid Prototyping, Massive Parallel Processing, Distributed Systems, Remote Sensing, Nano/Microelectronics, and Engineering Education.
