Hiring Student Interns

Welcome and thank you for your interest in hiring our College of Business Administration students as interns for your organization. Our students are ready to work for you! As part of our Student Professional Development Program (SPDP), our students are required to participate in several online and face-to-face workshops to prepare them for their internship and work experiences. This program was developed to give business majors a competitive edge in obtaining internships and securing their destined employment. The university requires a minimum of 150 work hours per internship. Therefore, College of Business Administration students must work no less than 150 work hours during their internship.

How can you hire a College of Business Administration student as an intern?

If you are interested in hiring our students as an intern for your organization, simply create a position description with hiring criteria details and email the information to cynthia.longoria@tamuk.edu. The position description should include the following information:

  • Detailed description of the internship or part-time position
  • Start and end dates

Hiring criteria:

  • Are you looking to hire sophomore, junior or senior?
  • How many positions do you have available?
  • Which major(s) do you prefer?
  • Is this a paid position? If so, how much per hour?
  • How many hours per week?
  • Work schedule requirement (e.g. 8:00 a.m. – 10 a.m. or flexible); location

Once the internship coordinator has received the internship criteria, your internship will be posted on the Career Services Center website. Resumes will be collected by the internship coordinator and reviewed for approval. Only approved resumes will be forwarded to the prospective employer via email for review. The employer can contact candidates and interview them for final selection. All internships must be approved by the internship coordinator and the dean’s office prior to the internship start date. Once a decision has been made, the employer is required to complete the employer agreement form and submit it to the internship coordinator via email or in person by the student.

What will take place when the internship is complete?

An internship is considered complete once the student has completed 150 work hours. If you plan to keep the student after 150 work hours, that is great. However, we require an evaluation form to be completed by his or her supervisor for the first 150 work hours. The evaluation will ask about the students’ performance and feedback about how we can better prepare our students for their future careers.

Completed evaluations can only be received directly from the supervisor’s email and will not be accepted directly from the student. It is the responsibility of the student to let the internship coordinator know that his or her internship is complete. The internship coordinator will then email the evaluation form to the email address provided on the employer agreement form.

Thank you for considering our College of Business Administration students to work as interns for your organization. We look forward to working with you in the future and appreciate the internship opportunities that you can provide for students.
