Exit Counseling Requirements


Who needs to complete the Exit Counseling?

Any student who borrowed Federal Direct Loans at TAMUK and who:

  • drop below half-time enrollment;
  • graduate; or
  • leave school.

Why do I need to complete the Exit Counseling?

Exit Counseling will provide you with the following information:

  • When repayment begins
  • How much you will repay
  • What to do if you can't make your loan payment
  • Who you will make student loan payments to

Exit Counseling Steps

  • Social Security Number
  • Driver's License number
  • Name/Address/Phone number for 3 references
  • FSA UserID and Password. Click here if you do not have an FSA ID

  • Visit Complete Loan Counseling website
  • Click on the "Start" button of the Exit Counseling website and follow the steps, making sure to complete them all. Data will not be saved if you stop prior to completing all of the steps.

Interested in more information?

  • Exit Counseling provides you basic repayment information. You must access NSLDS.ed.gov to obtain information about your Loan Servicer.

  • Exit counseling does NOT automatically enroll you in the repayment plan that you selected during your counseling session. You should contact your Loan Servicer for repayment plan selection.

  • Exit Counseling will NOT cause you to automatically go into loan repayment.

  • Failure to pay or defaulting your student loan may have a significant impact on your personal finances, including negatively impacting your credit history and your ability to borrow in the future.
