M.S. Environmental Engineering

The M.S. program in Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville is an interdisciplinary graduate program designed to prepare students for impactful careers in areas such as air and water quality, solid and hazardous waste management, ecological engineering, environmental biotechnology, and environmental informatics. Students benefit from access to state-of-the-art laboratories and computing facilities that support both research and instruction.

The program offers three options to accommodate diverse academic and professional goals:

  • Thesis Option I: Emphasizes research and requires completion of a thesis proposal and thesis defense (31 credit hours).
  • Project Option II: Focuses on applied research with a final project report (31 credit hours).
  • Course Option III: Designed for students seeking advanced coursework and professional development (31 credit hours).

We offer a new M.S. track in Environmental Sustainability and Resilience that prepares students to lead in the design and implementation of systems that are both environmentally responsible and adaptable to change. This specialization addresses the urgent need for engineers who can develop solutions that protect natural resources, mitigate environmental risks, and build resilient communities. This new track is also offered with three options (thesis, project, and course-only).

Core coursework includes environmental regulations, chemical principles for environmental design, and graduate seminar. Students also choose from specialized electives such as environmental modeling, biotechnology, air and water quality, and decision sciences among others.

Admission requires a bachelor’s degree and an acceptable TOEFL or IELTS score (for international students). Applications are reviewed holistically. Check the Graduate Catalog for more information.
