Dr. Riazi joined Texas A&M University – Kingsville in August 2023 as a Professor and Chair of the Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering Department until September 2026 when he joined the faculty of a newly formed Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering as a professor.  Before that, he was in Montreal, Canada and Kuwait, where he served as a Professor and Chair of Chemical Engineering at Kuwait University and as a consultant to Kuwait Oil Company. He also served as an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University as well as a visiting professor and scholar at various universities, including NTNU/Trondheim, Illinois/Chicago, Wright State/Dayton, Texas/Austin, McGill/Montreal, Waterloo/Canada, Sharif University, and IIT/India. In addition, he has been an invited speaker at more than 50 universities around the globe.

For more than three decades, he has been a consultant and speaker in the oil and gas industry and research centers in more than 40 countries, where he also conducted some 50+ short courses. He has more than 150 publications, including 8 books and a solutions manual. He is the founding editor and editor-in-chief of IJOGCT journal as well as editor of book series on Fuels and Petrochemicals for Taylor and Francis.  He has chaired many international conferences as well as the Fuels and Petrochemicals Group at the AIChE Annual Meetings since 2020.

Dr. Riazi has served as chair of the Fuels (renamed Energy) and Petrochemicals Division of AIChE at the annual meetings since 2020 and is a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) from Ontario, Canada.
