For Anthony Zane Anderson, engineering is more than a major—it’s a calling that blends creativity, perseverance, and a deep commitment to growth. The Corpus Christi native and electrical engineering alum from Texas A&M University-Kingsville has built a college experience rooted in purpose, community, and personal discovery.

Anderson first learned about Texas A&M-Kingsville when university recruiters visited Tuloso-Midway High School. That moment of outreach ultimately shaped his future.

“This was the only institution that came to my high school for recruitment,” Anderson said. “That’s when I learned about the engineering program and all the degrees offered.”

Since arriving on the Texas A&M-Kingsville campus, Anderson immersed himself in both academics and student life. From mastering circuit design and power systems to building robots and airplanes, his time at the university prepared him for challenges beyond the classroom.

“My experience at Texas A&M-Kingsville has shaped me into the person I always hoped to become,” he said. “Academically, I’ve developed a strong foundation in electrical systems, and personally, I’ve grown in confidence and resilience.”

Anderson was heavily involved in student organizations, including the Robotics Club, SAE AERO, and Additive Manufacturing Research. He’s also known for his unique passion for glassblowing—a skill he picked up after watching a video in high school.

“Glassblowing and engineering actually have a lot in common,” Anderson said. “Both require precision, creativity, and an understanding of materials and heat dynamics. It’s hands-on, just like prototyping in engineering.”

Balancing senior design projects, club responsibilities, and lab work has required long nights and unshakable dedication. For Anderson, the most memorable moments haven’t always been in the spotlight—but in the sweat equity poured into building something meaningful.

“Those sleepless nights preparing our robot, finishing the SAE AERO airplane, or printing thousands of 3D souvenirs for events—that’s what stands out,” he said. “What separates one student from another is how much time and dedication they’re willing to put into something bigger than themselves.”

Anderson credits his success to the support of faculty and staff across the college.

“I’d like to give a shoutout to Dr. Delia Valles-Rosales for her support of the Robotics Club and trusting me with managing the Gross Hall lab,” he said. “Also, Dean Heidi A. Taboada and her team, Dr. Amit Verma for pushing my limits, and everyone at Gross Hall who welcomed me and supported my enthusiasm.”

As he looks to the future, Anderson feels confident that his time at Texas A&M-Kingsville has set him up for success.

“This university has provided a strong foundation for my career,” he said. “The hands-on learning, close faculty relationships, and research opportunities have not only prepared me to enter the industry but also taught me the importance of continuous learning and growth.”

With a deep appreciation for the opportunities he’s earned and created, Anderson is a shining example of what it means to turn potential and passion into progress—one circuit, one connection, and one community at a time.
