EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF STRATEGIC PLAN

EXPAND THE PROGRAM THROUGH RECRUITMENT OF QUALITY STUDENTS

As we move into the future, the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program of Texas A&M University-Kingsville is committed to expanding undergraduate and post-baccalaureate (leveling) enrollment while building on its successful graduate program. To achieve this:

  • The program will foster relationships with the local community through both innovative and traditional outreach methods, enhancing engagement and collaboration.
  • Undergraduate students will gain increased exposure and experience with research, enhancing critical thinking and grounding their knowledge in evidence-based practices.
  • Graduate recruitment efforts will expand nationally.
  • We will continue the use of an online application process to broaden our national exposure and diversify the applicant pool.

STRENGTHEN THE CURRENT GRADUATE PROGRAM

We are committed to continual improvement in the quality of our graduate program. Our objectives include:

  • Maintaining an 80% rate of TLDR CFY licensure for the most recent graduating cohort, reflecting their readiness and the program’s comprehensive training
  • Regularly updating course content to ensure the information is current.
  • Allocating resources to keep teaching and therapy equipment and materials current.
  • Continuously collecting feedback from externship supervisors to assess student knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Appropriately meet the needs of our students for fall and spring externship placement.
  • Increasing the diversity of on-campus clinical hours through simulated learning and community outreach before students begin their externships.

BUILD ON ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT AND ENGAGEMENT

We aim to engage our CSDO Javelina alumni more actively in program development, curriculum review, and clinical supervision. Key strategies include:

  • Increasing interactions between alumni and current students, such as through community engagement activities and mentoring programs.
  • Hosting alumni events to encourage donations and scholarship support for current and future students.
