How to Apply
To apply for admission to the School of Music at Texas A&M University-Kingsville you must do the
following:
- Apply to the University through Apply Texas
- Submit a School of Music Audition Application Form
- On the School of Music Audition Application Form request an audition date
- Contact the major professor
- Submit a letter of recommendation from one of the following: Your Band Director, Choir Director, Orchestra Director, or Private Music Teacher
- Music Theory and Ear Training Exam Information
- Accept all Music Scholarship Offers by May 1st
- If you are going to be in Marching Band, register at the TAMUK Band Web Page
- Enroll in and attend a TAMUK Hoggie Days
Graduate
Fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, The Texas A&M-Kingsville School of Music offers a Master of Music degree with concentrations in music education, performance, and conducting. The MM degrees are each 36-hour programs. There are various concentrations within each of these degree programs:
M.M. Music Education with concentrations in Instrumental Education, Vocal Education, and Elementary Music Education.
- The degree is structured with the busy music educator in mind
- The degree can be completed in three consecutive summers with our intensive 2-week summer courses (4 courses each summer).
- The degree has 15 hours of core music classes and 18 hours of specialization courses in the student’s area of concentration. The degree will be completed with a 3 credit-hour final research project.
M.M. Music Performance with concentrations in Instrumental Performance and Vocal Performance
- The degree is taught in the traditional 2 year – long semester – format.
- The degree has 18 hours of core music classes and electives, 12 hours of applied lessons, and 3 hours of ensembles. The degree will be completed with a 3 credit-hour final Graduate Recital.
M.M. Music Conducting with concentrations in Wind Conducting and Choral Conducting
- The degree is taught in the traditional 2 year, long semester format.
- The degree has 21 hours of core music classes, conducting-related classes and electives, 9 hours of applied conducting lessons, and 3 hours of ensembles. The degree will be completed with a 3 credit-hour Graduate Recital.
Undergraduate Applicants
The Texas A&M University-Kingsville School of Music has 4 audition days to choose from. Select the day that will work best for you and specify that date on your department application form. If you are unable to attend one of these audition dates, please contact the professor for your voice/instrument.

8:30-9:00 Registration in the School of Music Building Lobby
9:00-10:00 Student/Parent Meeting with School of Music Director in the Performance Hall
10:00-11:30 Auditions – Specific time and location will be provided at Registration
11:30-1:00 Music Theory/Ear Training Entrance Exams – Location will be provided at Registration
(Representatives from University Admissions and Financial Aid will also be on hand to answer questions)

Graduate Applicants
Music Major Scholarships
Description: Monetary scholarships given to full-time music majors who meet the eligibility and audition criteria
Eligibility: Accepted into the university; full-time music major; successful audition
Amount: $300 to $1,000 per semester
Application: Successful audition; music scholarship application, one letter of recommendation
Renewable: 2.5 GPA overall; 2.5 GPA each semester; 3.0 in music courses; minimum grade of C in all music courses; grade of A or B in major area of applied concentration; grade of A or B in major ensemble
Given: First week of each Fall and Spring semester

All State Musician 2-Year Dormitory Scholarships
Description: Dormitory room scholarships given to full-time music majors for two years who meet the eligibility and audition criteria
Eligibility: Accepted into the university; full-time music major; successful audition; former member of All-State honor ensemble
Amount: Dormitory room each semester for two years, equivalent to @$2,000 per semester
Application: Successful audition; music scholarship application, one letter of recommendation
Renewable: Scholarship is given for the long semesters in the first two years; 2.5 GPA overall; 2.5 GPA each semester; 3.0 in music courses; minimum grade of C in all music courses; grade of A or B in major area of applied concentration; grade of A or B in major ensemble
Given: Prior to start of each Fall and Spring semester

Music Ensemble Scholarships
Description: Monetary scholarships given to university students who meet the eligibility and audition criteria
Eligibility: Accepted into the university; successful audition
Amount: $200 to $1,500 per semester
Application: Successful audition; music scholarship application, one letter of recommendation
Renewable: Grade of A or B in major ensemble
When Given: First week of each Fall and Spring semester

Marlowe and Lois Thomas String Scholarships
Description: Monetary scholarships given to string students who meet the eligibility and audition criteria
Eligibility: Accepted into the university; full-time music major or orchestra member; successful audition; play violin, viola, cello or double bass
Amount: $300 to $1,000 per semester
Application: Successful audition; music scholarship application, one letter of recommendation
Renewable: 2.5 GPA overall; 2.5 GPA each semester; 3.0 in music courses; minimum grade of C in all music courses; grade of A or B in major area of applied concentration; grade of A or B in major ensemble
When Given: First week of each Fall and Spring semester

Kingsville Music Club Scholarships
Description: Monetary scholarships given to the outstanding freshman music major and the outstanding upperclassman music major
Eligibility: Full-time music major; 3.0 GPA; recommended and selected by music faculty
Amount: $200
Application: Faculty chooses the students from among the current music majors
Renewable: No
When Given: Second Tuesday in April; Student must perform at the April meeting of the Kingsville Music Club
