Lakshmi Kollara Sunil

Dr. Kollara joined the CSDO faculty at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the fall of 2017. She received a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders at East Carolina University and is a licensed speech language pathologist and speech scientist. Dr. Kollara’s research is focused on using MRI and 3D imaging technology to study the speech mechanism in children with cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies. Her current collaborative work is focused on examining velopharyngeal muscle biomechanics and its effects on speech and surgical outcomes in children with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome using advanced MRI techniques and computational modeling. Dr. Kollara’s work also involves the development and innovative translation of non-sedated MRI scanning protocols across clinically complex pediatric populations. Her teaching interests include cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies and anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism.
