KINGSVILLE (Nov. 5, 2026) — Building on its commitment to making a world-class education more accessible and affordable, Texas A&M University-Kingsville is expanding its tuition assistance program, Javelina Promise, impacting the lives of even more students and their families.

Beginning with new, incoming students in Fall 2027, Javelina Promise requirements will now include a new Family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) threshold of $100,000 for students demonstrating financial need. The program will continue to cover tuition and mandatory fees.

In recognition that the cost of higher education extends beyond tuition and fees, TAMUK is launching the Javelina Promise +, which now offers eligible students a $2,000 per year Housing Scholarship. By helping offset the cost of on-campus housing, the university is hoping to encourage more students to benefit from the spirit of community and support that define the Javelina experience.

“The updates to the Javelina Promise program and the addition of the Javelina Promise + are an extension of our continued mission to offer students and their families as many pathways as possible to higher education, while prioritizing affordability and opportunity,” said Dr. Robert Vela, President of Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Javelina Promise and Promise + programs distinguish themselves from other similar programs in several ways. There are no class rank or test score requirements for the programs, and both are open to transfer students, ensuring that opportunities are available to a wider range of students.

To be eligible for Promise+, students must meet all Javelina Promise eligibility requirements, which include:

  • Being a Texas resident
  • Have a family household income of $100,000 or less
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Enroll full-time (at least 12 credit hours per semester)
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Submit a FAFSA

The deadline to be admitted and have a housing application on file is March 1, 2027.
