KINGSVILLE (June 3, 2026) — Four Texas A&M University – Kingsville School of Music voice students have been named place winners in the Texoma National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition.

Deja Godwin, of Paris, Texas, placed first in the Commercial Music Advanced Treble. Marisol Salazar, of Corpus Christi, placed third in Musical Theater Fourth Year Treble. Caitlin Randall, of Corpus Christi, placed second in Commercial Music Second Year Treble. Hillary Bravo, of San Antonio, placed second in Commercial Music First Year Treble.

Dr. Melinda Brou, Professor of Voice and Opera Workshop, said placing in the competition benefits the students in many ways.

“It helps to validate their progress in their performance skills,” Brou said. “It builds their resumes so that future employers and graduate schools can see that they have been successful in previous performances.”

Brou said the students are eligible for the next step in the competition which requires them to submit videos to the National YouTube round. If the students pass the video round, they will be National Semi-Finalists and will be invited to compete at the National Semi-Finals which will be held in July at San Antonio, Texas.

The competition will be going on for the next several months, culminating in the top students in each category from across the 15 national and international regions.
