KINGSVILLE (November 21, 2025) — The Board of Regents of The Texas A&M University System has approved the designation of 17 faculty members as Regents Professors and 13 agency service, extension and research professionals as Regents Fellows for exemplary performance and professional service during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Honored as the Regents Professor from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, is Dr. David Ramirez, professor and chair of the environmental engineering department in the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering.

“When I learned I had been selected as a Regents Professor, I felt a deep sense of gratitude and reflection. It wasn’t just excitement, but a moment to look back on the journey, the challenges, and the people who shaped it,” Ramirez said.

“This honor reminded me that the work we do in teaching, research, and service is never done alone but built on collaboration, mentorship, and with the trust of students and colleagues,” he said. “I felt humbled and excited knowing that this recognition represents not only personal effort but the collective impact we strive to make in my department, college, and institution.

“The exceptional achievements of these individuals reflect the very heart of The Texas A&M University System’s mission to serve the state of Texas — a mission rooted in our founding as a land-grant institution,” said Chairman Robert Albritton. “Since the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas opened its doors in 1876, our System has carried forward a promise of practical education, research and service for all Texans. These Regents Professors and Fellows embody that enduring commitment, and their dedication will inspire others across our universities and agencies.”

“This designation as Regents Professor is more than a personal honor,” Ramirez added. “It confirms a lifelong commitment to advancing excellence in teaching, research, and service. For my department of environmental engineering, this designation enhances visibility and credibility within the academic community. It helps attracting talented students and collaborators. At the college level, it indicates that we are producing work of national and international impact, which strengthens our reputation and opens doors for partnership opportunities.”

The Regents Professor Award program, established in 1996, recognizes faculty members whose contributions advance the academic institutions and serve the people of Texas. Since its inception, 323 faculty across the System have been honored.
