KINGSVILLE (August 8, 2025) — Texas A&M University-Kingsville students walked the stage Friday, Aug. 8, during Summer Commencement at the Steinke Physical Education Center. There were 232 prospective graduates who received degrees in one ceremony.
Of the graduates, 104 received bachelor’s degrees, 116 received master’s degrees and 12 received doctoral degrees.
The student commencement speaker for the 10 a.m. ceremony was Erik A. Zamora from Brownsville.
About Erik A. Zamora
Zamora received a master of science degree in plant and soil science. In 2022, Zamora earned his bachelor of science degree in range and wildlife management with a minor in biology, also, from Texas A&M-Kingsville. His research interests include soil health, agroecology and organic farming.
His master’s degree work is funded by a National Science Foundation CREST grant and the Leading grant. He also wrote and was awarded the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Graduate Student grant. He has been a graduate teaching assistant and a graduate research assistant, both for the department of agriculture, agribusiness and environmental sciences.
Zamora served an internship at a National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) field office in Wibaux, Montana which was funded by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture to the university. During the internship, he was able to learn from various positions that the NRCS offers like soil conservationist, soil scientist, district conservationist and range specialist. His duties varied from day to day from doing pasture inventories to collecting forbs.
He also is a member of the Soil Science Society of America, American Society of Agronomy, and Crop Science Society of America.
Zamora will soon start work on his doctorate in soil chemistry at Texas A&M University.
