KINGSVILLE (June 18, 2025) — Virginia Pederson, a recent graduate of the Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) RELLIS program, was also one of the first students to receive the new Chancellor’s Award for students.
The Bellville resident attended Blinn College before transferring to TAMUK’s RELLIS program in health psychology.
Three graduating students at the RELLIS campus received the first Chancellor’s Award for students.
Pederson will continue her education in the master’s of social work program at TAMUK in Kingsville in August. “I currently work for hospice and plan to continue to work for them throughout my master’s journey. My goal is to be a social worker for hospice,” she said.
“It brought me to tears when I learned that I was being awarded the Chancellor’s Award,” she said, “I was definitely not expecting such a special honor. I worked really hard while in school, not just to get good grades, but also to live by the core values of RELLIS.
“To be honored for my hard work was one of the highest points of my undergraduate career. Absolute gratitude is the only way I can describe how it felt in that moment,” Pederson said.
The RELLIS core values are Respect, Excellence, Leadership, Integrity and Selfless Service. These also are the core values of The Texas A&M University System.
