KINGSVILLE (April 25, 2025) — The Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) Opera Workshop will present the world premiere of Postlude: An Operatic Pastiche. The original story was written by Drs. Melinda Brou and Michael Carlson. Brou is professor of voice and opera and director of the Opera Workshop at TAMUK while Carlson is lecturer of musicology, also at TAMUK.
Postlude will hit the stage at The Little Theatre, 903 W. Engineering Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4. The production is rated PG. Tickets are $5 for TAMUK students and those 18 and under and $8 for general admission. They may be purchased online only at https://tinyurl.com/4e8nt33f.
The production ties together music from 17 different operas, operettas and zarzuelas spanning about 300 years of music history. A pastiche imitates other artistic works.
“It is a zany look at the backstage antics of a small opera company on the closing night of their latest production,” said Brou. “It features beautiful costumes, lots of dancing and an inordinate amount of silliness.”
In addition to Brou and Carlson, the show features Dr. John Lopez, associate professor and associate director of bands as conductor; Dr. Ookjin You, instructor of piano/collaborative piano, on piano and TAMUK alumna Laurie Guajardo with choreography.
Student performers are Sergio Balcazar, Paige Bonuz, Damien De La Cruz, Mark Dewulf, Alex Garcia, Yasmeen Garcia, Deja Godwin, Carlos Gonzalez, Destynn Hatcher, Hope Howard, Briana Huerta, Bryson Nino, Jazmyn Ongpoy, Isabelle Quezada, Caitlin Randall, Marisol Salazar, Amylia Sauceda, Aria Shirah, Sarah Sibson, Stephen Spacek, and Hunter Wood.
Members of the student crew include Karla Clemens, Ana Colchado, and Marysol Romero.
