Centennial Time Capsule

The Centennial Time Capsule Committee invites submissions for the Texas A&M University–Kingsville 50-year underground time capsule. All members of the university community are encouraged to participate by contributing items that reflect the spirit, culture, and achievements of our campus during this historic milestone. Each organization and department is eligible to submit items for consideration. The dimensions of the underground time capsule are 16” X 16.2” X 20”. While not all submissions will be selected for inclusion in the underground capsule, due to limited space, the committee will archive selected contributions through the South Texas Archives. Final selections for the capsule will be announced during the Centennial Time Capsule Celebration on October 25, 2025.

Items recommended for submission include durable textiles such as signed shirts, hats, jerseys, or uniforms marked with a permanent ink pen to ensure signatures remain visible over time. University memorabilia like mugs, pins, or other durable items are welcome, provided they are stable and resistant to decay. Photographs, flyers, and publications may also be submitted, although these will be curated separately in the Archive Time Capsule to ensure proper preservation of paper materials. Submissions should represent the unique identity of the contributing organization or department, and each item must be accompanied by a completed form explaining its description, significance, and connection to Texas A&M University–Kingsville.

Certain materials cannot be accepted due to their susceptibility to damage in underground storage. Stress balls, foam items, and 3D-printed plastics made with PLA degrade rapidly and are not suitable for long-term preservation. Such items are prone to decay and damage and will not be included. Oversized objects exceeding the space constraints of the capsule must also be excluded. Items with batteries or electronic components are strongly discouraged because they are likely to corrode and leak, damaging other materials. Food, liquids, candles, or any perishable goods are not suitable for submission.

All submissions must be delivered for consideration to the South Texas Archives, located on the third floor of the library, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline for submissions is October 8, 2025.
