This competition is hosted by the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Mathematics Department, delivered through the ALEKS program, an artificially intelligent web-based math learning system. After students register for the event, they can use ALEKS to practice and prepare for the competition. Students get periodic assessments called knowledge checks to let them know how they are doing. Winners will be determined by the highest score on a comprehensive assessment administered on date of the contest.

Eligibility

Students who completed Algebra I last school year (AY 22-23) are eligible to participate. Students enrolled in Algebra I this school year (AY 23-24) are also eligible, but will be competing against students who have already completed Algebra I.

Individual and Team Awards

All students compete against each other for the individual competition. Schools may bring up to fifteen students. $1500, $1000, and $500 Texas A&M University-Kingsville scholarships will be awarded for first, second, and third place individual finishers. Certificates and t-shirts will be awarded to all participants.

  • First, second, and third place team trophies will be awarded to schools based on the sum of the top three student scores from each participating school.

Registration Process

  1. Teachers:  register your students through the EMarkets
  2. Have parent or guardian fill out and sign for each student the participant waiver, indemnification and medical treatment form, and the media release form.
  3. Have students follow instructions to enroll in the ALEKS program online.
  4. Students allow 3 business days to receive ALEKS enrollment authorization.
  5. Students begin working on ALEKS !

Students will not be able to compete if:

  1. They do not bring their participant waiver, indemnification, and medical treatment form filled out and signed by their parent or guardian.
  2. They have not registered AND taken their initial assessment on ALEKS.
