Message from the Dean, Dr. Shad D. Nelson

Come join a college that is itself a true Living Legacy.  Named for the legendary rancher and his philanthropic wife, the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has graduated a vast number of Texas’s finest agriculturists, wildlife biologists, and conservationists. As we commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, we celebrate the contributions of our graduates to the growth and development of south Texas, with an eye to the next 100 years. Our faculty and staff are committed to our students, with knowledge that their education will obviously impact theirs and their families lives but also change communities for the better. Students who engage in our educational programs quickly rise to become sought-after professionals in their field because of our tailored, high-impact, hands-on approach to learning.  This experiential learning model encourages our students to engage in research and training through unique programs that provide internships and professional tours throughout the state, nation and internationally.  You can find out students in summer programs across the United States and throughout Central and South America.  Come discover why students are drawn to Javelina Nation, and, more importantly, why they stay to complete their educational journey at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. You will discover an atmosphere where you are a valued person – not a number – and where the caring faculty is dedicated to seeing your career aspirations come true.

If you have not yet visited Kingsville, we welcome you to explore all that the Coastal Bend region has to offer. The great outdoors awaits you, with beautiful beaches and excellent fishing, and some of  the best range and croplands in Texas for recreational adventures. Kingsville’s proximity to the historic King Ranch and other large ranches, permit many of our students access to lands and opportunities most people across Texas and our nation are envious of enjoying.  Come build fond memories as you navigate your educational journey with great friends and compassionate faculty to a life-changing degree, where our graduates say “Once a Javelina, Always a Javelina!”

I encourage you to click one of the large buttons on our main webpage and peruse our website to view our programs.  The Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is comprised of three academic departments – Departments of Agriculture, Agribusiness, and Environmental Sciences; Animal Science and Veterinary Technology; and Rangeland and Wildlife Sciences. In addition, the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management, National Natural Toxins Research Center, and the Citrus Center in Weslaco are housed within our college, and we are proud to have the only four-year veterinary technology program in south Texas. If you would like to visit our campus and discover why the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has consistently been the best place to fulfill educational dreams, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.  Dean Shad.Nelson@tamuk.edu
