University College is the home for programs designed to help new students succeed during their first year on a college campus and beyond. Research demonstrates that pitfalls within the freshman year often lead to frustration, failure and for some, the end of a successful college experience. Texas A&M University-Kingsville is committed to student success and has developed programs and services which will improve your academic success.
Since 1989, University College has served as the gateway to academic success on our campus and provides support to students through academic advising, developmental education, the Texas Success Initiative Program, Supplemental Instruction, Learning Assistance Center tutorial services, and the University Honors Program (Honors College). Each year, the College hosts Freshman Convocation, a campus-wide event designed to introduce campus traditions and a spirit of success and achievement to incoming students.
New initiatives are actively engaged in enhancing student success in University College. Javelina Learning Communities provide the sense of community within and outside of the classroom that has played a powerful role in student learning and success at campuses throughout the nation. In fall 2007, Partners for Success, an innovative consortium agreement with our local community college partner, Del Mar College, was initiated in an effort to increase the academic success of under-prepared students. There is so much to be proud of at Texas A&M University-Kingsville- University College! We look forward to meeting you and will provide assistance as needed to make your first year a successful one!
