Honors Program
Engaging and enriching the lives and learning of high-achieving students
Introduction
Housed in University College, the University Honors Program provides opportunities for the most academically talented, promising and motivated undergraduate students to participate in a community of excellence at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. This program is open to incoming freshmen and current and transfer students who meet strict academic criteria. One goal of the program is that participants will be more successful in their classes as they progress to their eventual graduation. Finally, students who successfully complete Honors Program requirements will receive appropriate notation on the student's academic transcript, separate listing of honors graduates in the commencement program, and the granting of an Honors certificate at graduation. Each Honors graduate will also receive regalia to wear at commencement in the form of a new Honors Medallion.Undergraduate Honor Societies
The University Honors Program also serves as the coordinator for campus undergraduate honor societies which celebrate and reward high achievement across the disciplines. These honor societies include:- Alpha Lambda Delta Freshmen Honors Society
- Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honors Society
- Alpha Chi Honors Society
- Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society
Research and Service
With the goal of enriching the student experience, the TAMUK Honors Council approved new guidelines for Honors Program completion in 2006-2007. One component included requires that Honors students participate in an undergraduate research or service project. This requirement provides opportunities for students to develop academic skills which will improve their marketability to the workforce or professional / graduate schools through scholarship and/or gain an increased appreciation for the diverse world which awaits them at graduation through service to our community.Research and Service
