Dear [Donor Name or Organization Name],

First paragraph: State the purpose of your letter.

I am writing to sincerely thank you for your generous $1,000.00 [Name of scholarship] scholarship.  I am very happy and appreciative that I was selected as the recipient of your scholarship.

Second and Third paragraphs: Share about yourself and indicate why the scholarship is important. Briefly state your goals and accomplishments.

I am a junior at Texas A&M University Kingsville, majoring in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration.  I plan to pursue a career in the marketing field upon graduating from Texas A&M University Kingsville. I am currently carrying 18 credit hours, and plan to graduate in the spring of 2012.  After graduation, I plan to earn my MBA, also from Texas A&M University Kingsville.  My dream is to eventually become an entrepreneur in the Coastal Bend area, offering quality and innovative marketing services to local businesses. Thanks to you, I am one step closer to achieving those goals.

During the course of my studies, I have managed to maintain a GPA of around 3.5.  This has been a real accomplishment for me, and something I have worked very hard to achieve.  My grades are very important to me, and even with the challenge of working part-time as well as attending school full-time, I am proud of the grades I have accomplished.  My family is also very proud of me.  My parents never had the opportunity to attend college, so I am the first in my family to earn a college degree.  I am happy that I am setting the example for my own children and hope that they will one day follow in my footsteps and earn their own degree.

Third paragraph: Close by thanking the person again and make a commitment to do well with the “donor’s investment.”

By awarding me the [Name of scholarship], you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning.  Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community.  I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals and dreams, just as you have helped me.

Sincerely,

Second and Third paragraphs: Share about yourself and indicate why the scholarship is important. Briefly state your goals and accomplishments.

I intend to major in English with a minor in Creative Writing, and Texas A&M University Kingsville has one of the strongest writing programs in South Texas.  After college, I plan to move on to graduate school and earn my Master’s degree in English; my goal is to become an accomplished fiction novelist. Because of your support, I am one step closer to that goal.

I am the first in my family to go to college, so my getting accepted into Texas A&M University Kingsville with an academic scholarship was a welcome surprise.  I am from (Name of City), and people from my neighborhood rarely ever make it out; I was one of the lucky few. Writing has always been my passion.
