What is the TSI Assessment?

The purpose of this examination is to assess the level of your academic ability. The TSI test results provides the information necessary for better placement during registration for your courses. The TSI Assessment will determine your preparation level for college in the subjects of Math and ELAR&Essay(English, Language Arts and Reading). It was created by the state of Texas to save you time and money. Our mission is to make sure that you are successful. If you have already been admitted to the university, don't worry, this test has nothing to do with your admission.  The TSI test results are all about helping you to succeed in your course of studies at the university.

Still not convinced of the importance? Watch the following short video.

Who is required to take the TSI Assessment?

As an incoming student, you must satisfy Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements unless you qualify for an exemption or waiver.  Official documents must be submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to new student orientation for determining exemption. Don’t worry, exemptions are permanent and do not need to be renewed each semester. Click here to learn more about exemptions and waivers.

The Office of Admissions will contact you via email prior to your orientation to inform you of the status that has been determined for you for the TSI. This will be based on official college or high school transcripts, official standardized test scores, and/or military documents.

How can I prepare for the TSI test? PAA information

Before you can register to take the TSI Assessment test, you must first complete the  Pre-Assessment Activity  (PAA). Please use only this link for the PAA.  This is a mandatory requirement for all test takers  To access the PAA, you must create an account in Accuplacer.  You will not be allowed to test if the PAA is not done.  It only takes about 20 minutes from start to finish; upon completion you will receive an email certificate showing the proof of your completion. The certificate will contain important information that you will need to register for your TSI test.

NOTE: You only need to complete the Pre-Assessment Activity once ; the certificate information is good whether you are registering for one test, three tests or a retest.

We also encourage you to prepare for your TSI test.  Here are some sample questions.

In addition, there is a new TSI Assessment Web-Based Study App that is free for all students.  You can use this tool to become familiar with the style and content of questions in the TSI Assessment.  The study app features practice tests in the TSI Writing, Reading and Math Assessments and can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or Smartphone.     TSI Study App

How much does the TSI Assessment test cost? What is the registration process and when are the tests offered?
