Newly elected SGA president Kenny Nelson and former president Gabriel Geyne
After one of the most surprising
Student Government
Association (SGA) elections, a
new president of Student
GovernmentAssociation,
Kenny Nelson, was sworn in
as the 84th SGApresidential
office on Saturday,May 2.
Now that it is official, Nelson
is planning on making
progress in the new academic
year.
“My main objective for
SGAis to make it have a
face,” Nelson said. “I think
that by having the senators be
openly available and accountable
to their constituents
within the college they represent,
we will be able to maintain
a better feel for the pulse
of the student and accomplish
things that will positively
change our school.”
Nelson said he has been
both surprised and pleased
by the reaction of students
who have expressed their
concerns about the status of
the university.
“ Honestly, I was surprised
that there are so many students
that are both concerned
about their school and are
willing to give their time and
energy to make it better,” Nelson
said. “It makes me feel
like I am not the only one and
that there will be many hands
to do the work.”
Nelson has been an active
member in SGAand S.O.F.C.
Chairperson.
With years of SGAleadership
experience behind him
Nelson said he has seen the
weaknesses of past SGAsessions
and is aware of what
must be fixed.
As Nelson and the SGA
begin the recruitment of senators
for the 84th session, apathy
will not be a part of tthe
SGAvocabulary.
“We have been fortunate to
add several senators that have
been willing to take on responsibility
and have done
extremely well with it,” Nelson
said.
The overall objective of the
84th SGAsession is efficiency,
Nelson said.
