This year’s Fifth Annual President’s Legacy Ball will be hosted by Texas A&M University-Kingsville President Rumaldo Juárez, Ph.D., for the last time.
Juárez, who announced his resignation as university president Wednesday, Feb. 13, said that this year’s President’s Legacy Ball is going to be an emotional one.
Each year, the President’s Legacy Ball is organized by a group of community and university representatives under the direction of the Office of the President, First Lady Teresa Juárez and the Division of Institutional Advancement.
“Knowing that this will be the last president’s ball that my wife and I will attend as president and first lady will be filled with emotions about our departure, but at the same time we will receive a great deal of comfort from knowing that we will be sharing the evening with a group of Javelina supporters and friends that mean so much to us and to this university,” Juárez said.
The President’s Legacy Ball is celebrated to honor members of the Legacy Society, which is made up of individuals and organizations who contribute to the university by donating more than $100,000. Student scholarships are also fund-raised through the help of the President’s Legacy Ball. In the past four years, the university has generated more than $111,000 for the President’s Legacy Ball Scholarship Endowment.
“The donations are generated three ways: ticket sales, sponsorships and a silent auction,” University Public Relations Director Jill Scoggins said. “We also hold a silent auction at the ball – area businesses and individuals donate items for the silent auction with all proceeds going to benefit the university.”
This year, Wells Fargo, Caldwell Banker-Homestead Properties, Lowe’s and Kleberg Bank are among those sponsoring the event.
“We owe much of our success to their support and contributions,” Juárez said. “We will have an opportunity to thank our major donors not only for their financial support but also their strong Javelina spirit and the love they have for their alma mater.”
Juárez also said that he is looking forward to joining the university’s supporters at next year’s President’s Legacy Ball under new administration.
“Our commitment to Texas A&I/A&M is forever,” Juárez said. “What I will miss the most about being President is the excitement that goes with the challenges we face in higher education and especially being at the center of the successes of our students and our faculty and staff.”
