Students and faculty asked to lock doors and remain inside campus buildings
Texas A&M University- Kingsville students and faculty were forced to take emergency action last Wednesday as a police chase led by Border Patrol and local police brought a lockdown to the campus.
The South Texan asked students to describe their experience of the university lockdown situation.
“I was in the chemistry building and I was about to leave when we were told the school had been put on lockdown. We were held in the room and one of the workers put a movie on for us. I was scared because we were told a guy was running around campus with a gun.”
-Yvette Guerra, junior biology and chemistry major
“I was in the dorm and tried to leave but they told me I couldn’t because the school was on lock-down so I went back upstairs and took a nap. I found out later what happened.”
-Matt Hinton, freshman education major
“I was in my dorm and I was kind of scared because I didn’t know what was going on. I turned to tv and online news to figure out what was going on because there were rumors that someone was shot at the library, and then I remembered it was the anniversary of Virginia Tech.”
-Cassandra Clarke, sophomore theatre arts major
“I was at work at Wal-Mart and a customer told me that the school was on lockdown.”
“I didn’t get a phone call but I got an email.”
-Jeff Cortez, junior bio-medical sciences major
“I was in the physics lab and a friend told me that we were on lockdown. At first I just thought it was someone trying to reenact the Virginia Tech incident but then I found out what was really going on and I was relieved.”
Vicente Maldonado, junior electrical engineering major
