HEALTH & WELLNESS COMMITTEE CONDUCTS CAMPUS SURVEY
The Health & Wellness Committee is conducting a survey to assess employee's needs on a Wellness program at TAMUK. In the past, activities from various campus departments have included aerobics, yoga, CPR training, weight maintenance & weight loss programs, physical activity incentive programs, educational sessions on numerous health topics, and health screens for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and self-reported health risks. Please respond to the faculty/staff health interests questionnaire and return by September 19, 2001. Mail the top portion to MSC 112 (Life Services and Wellness). Also, if you want to participate in winning one of the ten great prizes for answering the questionnaire - write your name and telephone extension in the bottom portion and mail to MSC 112. For further information, contact Life Services and Wellness at 593-3991. We encourage everyone to participate in such endeavors.
WOMEN'S CENTER AND STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFERS WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
The Office of Student Activities and The Women’s Center are jointly sponsoring the TAMUK Women’s Leadership Institute. The Institute has been created in an effort to provide additional leadership development for students and assist women student leaders to connect with one another, the university, and society. The Institute, a six week program, will begin October 3, 2001, and will culminate in the Texas Conference for Women in Austin, Texas. It is open to women who are/have: juniors, demonstrated leadership potential, & interested in being a leader to society upon graduation. If you know of a TAMUK female student that meets the above criteria and/or whom you feel may benefit from this program, please nominate her by calling 593-2166 or by e-mailing kabm001@tamuk.edu . We need all nominations no later than October 17, 2001.
NOON WALK WEDNESDAY -- AEROBICS TO BEGIN
The next NOON WALK WEDNESDAY will be September 19, 2001 outside the library from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. Want to stay fit or just relieve some stress? Come sign up to walk, run or bike an approximate one mile course anytime between the hours of 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. Door prizes are given away at most walks, and t-shirts are awarded to the participants who complete 11 out of 13 walks during the Fall Semester. Remember the walks take as long as it takes you to complete the course. You can sign up at any time between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm.

Aerobics

Don't miss out! High-Low Impact Aerobic Classes will begin September 18, 2001 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm in the HR Building (Old Gym). Classes will be held on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Come Join the Fun!!! For more information on either of these programs contact Recreational Sports at x3059.


CONFIDENTIAL HIV TESTING OFFERED
Kleberg County Human Services Project F.I.N.D. and Life Services and Wellness will be offering free, anonymous, and confidential HIV testing at Life Services and Wellness. The Ora Sure HIV testing kit is used for the HIV antibodies inside the mouth; no blood or needles are used. Pre and Post-test counseling is provided and results are obtained within three days. For further information contact Health Care Services at 593-2904. The following dates are scheduled throughout the semester:


LIFE SERVICES OFFERS GRIEF COUNSELING & CLASSROOM SUPPORT
Life Services and Wellness (LSW) would like to assist faculty with their students in this time of grief. If faculty would like to facilitate a classroom debriefing, or have the Life Services & Wellness staff facilitate a debriefing, please contact Connie Rosas-Najera at x3991.
