STUDENTS CONTINUE "HOG CALL" TRADITION
Thursday, September 7 at 9:00 p.m., all students, faculty, and staff are invited to participate in one of the newer Javelina traditions - Hog Call. Hog Call is a chance to have fun, hollar, learn, and practice Javelina songs, chants, and rituals to be used during Hoggie football games. Hog Call is held, rain or shine, in the student section of Javelina Stadium the Thursday before each home game. Last week over 350 students participated. Hog Call is coordinated by the Yell Leaders, Student Government, fraternities & sororities, and several other student groups. Everyone one, including staff and faculty, are invited.
STRESS MANAGEMENT SEMINARS
Session 1: Sept. 20 & 27 and October 4 & 11 or Session 2: Sept. 25 and November 1, 8 & 15 Are you a stress junkie? Participants will learn the difference between positive and negative coping styles. Students will have the opportunity to identify their stress coping patterns, partake in visual imagery meditation, and other activities. Call Life Services & Wellness at 593-3991 to register for a group session.
STARBUCKS AND BONUS BUCKS FROM SODEXHO
Bonus Bucks are back! Put $50 on your card and you will get an additional $5 and a coupon book worth over $15 at Sodexho locations in the SUB! Sodexho is also adding and remodeling to serve you better. Watch for the Grand Opening of Starbucks Coffee and More - Great Starbucks coffee and drinks with delicious homemade baked goods. Breakfast Taquito's and Lunch Specials will round out the menu. Pizza Hut Express has moved to the old Javelina Café - Personal Pan Pizza's, a great new soup and salad bar will tempt your taste-buds, and, coming soon - breadsticks and chicken wings.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS COMPLETE ORIENTATION ACTIVITIES
On Friday, August 11, international students attended sessions related to career preparation, the student handbook, emergencies (such as hurricane procedures and other safety concerns), education for life-long learners and adjusting to life in Kingsville.
WOMEN'S ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Life Services & Wellness will be offering an array of women's programs that educate and enhance awareness of women's issues while promoting a climate of social justice that is free of barriers and discriminations. For more information contact Jennifer Echols at 593-3991.
TOM MARTIN JOINS HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE AS DIRECTOR
Tom Martin has joined Housing and Residence Life as Director. Tom comes to Kingsville from United Campus Housing at in Jacksonville, FL. Tom has his BS and MEd in Higher Education from the University of Montevallo.

Get into the HOP at LSW. Healthy Options Program (HOP) will help you bounce into a healthy start for the fall! Every Thursday, come on over during your lunch hour and weigh in and get some "healthful advice" from our on-site nutritionist. Come solo or bring your department. We will show you creative ways to buddy up, or get competitive to make getting healthy FUN!!! If you are participating in the Biggest Loser Contest with Rec Sports, this is a great way to supplement your efforts! For more information call 593-3991.
DID YOU KNOW...
  • Rec Sports Cheerleader Try Outs were held on Thursday, August 31st in the Old Gym to recruit new team members. Eight new cheerleaders have been added to the team, making a great 25 member cheerleading team with two mascots.
  • Recruiters from across the country will be presenting workshops in Career Services on topics such as Resume Writing, Interview Skills, and How to Work a Career Fair this fall. Contact Kirsten for a list of recruiters and workshops.
  • Life Services & Wellness staff members provide presentations to promote responsible decision making in choosing healthy lifestyles for the university. Contact x3991 for presentations on Academic Enhancement, Alcohol &Drugs, Health Issues, Relationship Issues, Wellness, and Sexual Health.
  • For the third year, USA Today and Campus Housing offers the Campus Readership Program. Residents have the opportunity to read the USA Today, Corpus Christi Caller Times, and the San Antonio Express News daily. Papers are available free to all residents. An extension of this program is the USA Today Collegiate. This website is dedicated to faculty. This free service provides users with a collection of tools to enhance the understanding of current events in the news. It also provides successful strategic processes needed to integrate new information more effectively into the classroom. All faculty are encouraged to check out this site with the full knowledge that 1) it was designed for the educator, and 2) residential students have access to several news medium in the residence halls that could be incorporated into the classroom.
