STUDENT TRAVEL POLICY UNDER REVIEW
The Student Travel Policy governing all travel by students for official university business, including academic field trips, student organization events, and athletic travel is under review. At the last legislative session, Senate Bill 263 was passed mandating certain requirements be within all student travel policies. Many of these requirements were contained in the existing student travel policy. However, effort is currently underway to add the remaining elements to be in compliance, as well as improve the process and documentation required for student travel. The current policy, which should be read and understood by all faculty and staff that may transport students, is available online at http://users.tamuk.edu/katj000/avpsa/studenttravelcurrent.htm. The draft may be viewed at http://users.tamuk.edu/katj000/avpsa/studenttraveldraft.htm. Your positive feedback is welcome by contacting Dr. Tom Jackson, Jr., Associate VP for Student Affairs.

JAVELINA MENTOR PROGRAM PREPARED FOR FRESH START
The Javelina Mentor Program, formerly HOSTS, is about to begin another great year and your help and participation is greatly needed. It starts with the Initial Meeting of the Mentors this Thursday at 3:30 pm in the SUB 221 A/B. This will be an opportunity to acquaint mentors with the program, its goals, and the changes for the coming year. Some changes to the program include an Initial Meeting of Mentees, Introduction Reception During Welcome Week, Reduced Meeting Frequency (added some activities in which matches may participate), providing Meeting Agendas (to help guide some of the conversations there will be a set of four meeting agendas that can easily be adapted to anyone’s personal style), a Contract of Participation, and Recognition. For additional information, please contact Mr. Barry McKinney, Assistant Director of Student Activities, or the Department of Student Activities at (361) 593-2760.
"HELLO" PROJECT CONTINUES - CAMPUS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE
During the fall semester the Student Affairs staff are once again trying to "greet" faculty, staff, and students as we all cross campus. Rather than walking by individuals without a simple "hello" the staff are making a point to try and greet all we pass. You are invited to join the student affairs division in the "Hello" Project. As you walk across campus try and say hello to all those you pass.
GRADUATE STUDENT PERSONNEL COURSE OFFERED FALL SEMESTER
The College of Education is offering the "Intro to Student Personnel Services (EDCG 5330)" course this fall semester from 6 - 8:50 pm every Tuesday. This graduate level course within the Counseling and Guidance program is the first in a series of courses already within the College providing an introductory look into student development in higher education. Staff and students interested in the higher education and student development professions are encouraged to register for this course. The course should provide an understanding of how student affairs departments serve the academic mission of a campus, the underlying themes and values of the student development profession, why we say residence halls instead of dorms, and why great importance is placed on students and responsibility. For more information contact Dr. Tom Jackson, Jr., Associate VP for Student Affairs.

The anticipated start date is around January 7th.

Dr. Dianne Brown is currently the Interim Dean of Students and has served as Interim since September 2000.
