MCNAIR SCHOLARS CONDUCT SUMMER RESEARCH-PRESENT JULY 13
This spring the TAMUK’s McNair Scholars presented their research at the 7th Annual TX McNair Scholars Research Conference at the University of North Texas, Denton, TX and at the 19th National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Lexington, Virginia. Earlier this summer two McNair Scholars participated at the first McNair GRE Summer Senior Camp sponsored by California State University–Dominguez Hills in Twin Peaks, California. The purpose of the intensive five-day/four-night experience was to prepare rising senior McNair Scholars for the graduate school application process and life as a graduate student. Currently during the summer 2005 research experience there are 15 McNair Scholars working with faculty mentors on various research projects. These scholars will be presenting the results of their work at the 10th Annual McNair Scholars Program Research Presentation to be held in July 13, 2005. Yes, McNair is celebrating 10 years at TAMUK.
STUDENT AFFAIRS ACCOMPLISHMENTS NOW ONLINE
Student Affairs has released a short list of several accomplishments that have occurred within the division since 2000. The list, partially from past IEPs, includes successes in renovating the Memorial Student Union, developing programs, and establishing joint agreements with neighboring colleges. To see the list click www.tamuk.edu/sass/accomplishments.html.
STUDENT SERVICE FEE COMMITTEE COMPLETES FUNDING
The Student Service Fee committee is a nine member group consisting of five students (appointed by SGA) and four at-large members (appointed by the University President). The 2004-05 committee included five students, two staff, and two faculty. The charge of the committee was to review all requests for student service fee funding and allocate approximately $1.6 million in resources. To see the list of those departments or student groups funded for 2005-06 click www.tamuk.edu/sass/ssf.htm. The list only contains the names of those organizations that were funded. Letters will be sent to all applicants during Summer II with more specific information on how the resources should be used or why they were not funded.
INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS KEEPING PACE WITH I-20'S
International Admissions has issued 522 I-20's as of June 30. This is consistent with 2004 where they also issued 522 by the same date. Unlike last June, 17 international students have confirmed their attendance to TAMUK for the fall. In 2004 that number was zero. Since 9-11 it has been difficult for campuses nationwide to recruit international students. The issuance of an I-20 provides an international student partial authority to enter the United States for the purposes of higher education.

HOUF, JACKSON WIN FIRST GOLF SCRAMBLE
Michael Houf (History) and Tom Jackson (Student Affairs) won the first golf scramble by two strokes Friday, June 24 at L.E. Ramey Golf Course. It isn't too late to join in the fun. Dust off the golf clubs and join Recreational Sports for the summer golf scramble. Every Friday at 1:00 p.m. join faculty, staff, and students for a shotgun start golf scramble. The scramble is nine holes, best hole. Arrive by 12:45 p.m. and whoever shows up will be put on twosomes or foursomes. Create your own team if you want. Just show up, pay, play, and then tell golf stories afterward in the clubhouse. For more information contact Charles Espinoza at x3057. See you there!
TAMUK RESIDENCE HALL STUDENTS TRAVEL TO NEW YORK FOR LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Ten students from the Residence Hall Association (RHA) traveled to Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York to participate in the National Association of College and University Residence Halls Conference (NACURH). The conference was held May 25-29. The theme of the conference was "Carrying the Torch of Leadership."
There were approximately 3,000 students from across the United States from a variety of universities in attendance. The conference featured various leadership opportunities and activities to meet other attendees. The delegates enjoyed programming sessions, a focus project, regional roll call, and entertainment. The TAMUK delegates theme was the the "TAMUK Hog Sledding Team." Among other things, each delegate from TAMUK volunteered during the conference and helped with program evaluations and the hospitality rooms.
The delegates in attendance were Aaron Dziuk, Terri Godines, Veronica Hall, Colleen Hampton, Amy Hlavaty, Chris Maples, Jon Otto, Logan Renfro, Lorena Silva, and Iris (Annie) Soto.
