GALE SAYERS TO SPEAK THURSDAY AT LECTURESHIP SERIES
Gale Sayers, NFL Hall of Fame halfback and now successful businessman will speak on Thursday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. "Interest in the event has been phenomenal," say Dr. Tom Jackson, Jr., associate vice president for student affairs. As reported, the evening reception/dinner is sold out with over 110 guests expected to attend. The lectureship committee expects a large crowd in Jones Auditorium, which seats 1,000. Tickets for "Inspiration, Dedication, and A Commitment to Excellence: An evening with Gale Sayers" are still available in the ID Card Center (SUB 110), online at www.startickets.com, or by phone at 888-783-4567. The visit by Gale Sayers includes a student leader/athlete reception in McCulley Hall (2:00 p.m.), press conference (3:00 p.m.), private reception/dinner (5:30 p.m.), and public reception in the Ben Bailey Art Gallery (8:45 p.m.). Faculty are again encouraged to promote this event in their classes by tying the event to the curriculum and encouraging students to attend.
WOMEN'S CONFERENCE AND BE ALL YOU CAN BE LUNCHEON HUGE SUCCESS
The A&M-Kingsville Women's Center hosted the annual Women's Conference and Be All You Can Be Luncheon Tuesday, March 26 in the SUB Ballroom. "Be All You Can Be" Awards were presented to Dr. Susan Myers (Faculty), Ms. Julie Navejar (Staff), and Ms. Jessica Hester (Student). The guest speaker, Ms. Suzie Humphreys, provided a thought-provoking and entertaining speech on taking risks, volunteering, adventure, finding happiness, and having goals.
COUNTRY SUPERSTARS CHARLIE ROBISON AND CHRIS CAGLE TO PERFORM FRIDAY - APRIL 5
On April 5 the campus will play host to Nashville Recording Artists Charlie Robison and Chris Cagle. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for everyone else. Cagle has recently had three top-ten hits including "My Love Goes On and On", "Laredo", and currently "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out." Tickets are available in the Student Activities Office and the CactusFlower in Kingsville. Tickets in the Corpus Christi area can be purchased at The Cellular Store in Calallen and Boots N Britches on McArdle. Valley outlets are Lionel's Western Wear and Boots n Jeans in Weslaco. Tickets can be purchased online or by telephone through Star Tickets at www.startickets.com or 1-888-597-STAR.
HOGGIE DAYS ORIENTATION APRIL 21-22
The Hoggie Days orientation is closely approaching featuring the Sunday-Monday orientation schedule. The registration fee is $65 (Students) and $35 (Parents). For more information, call the Student Activities Office at 593-2760.
BEST KEPT SECRET STILL AVAILABLE IN THE JAVELINA ROOM
The best-kept secret is still available in the Javelina Room (SUB) each morning until 9:30 a.m. - COFFEE. All faculty and staff are invited to stop by any and every morning for your free cup of coffee. This is a compliment of Sodexho and Student Affairs. If you are really serious, bring your favorite mug or buy an extra large mug from the Bookstore.
VIDEOCONFERENCE -- "THE FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE: ASSESSING WHAT WE VALUE"
A live videoconference “The First Year of College: Assessing What We Value” is scheduled for Thursday, April 4 from noon until 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast in the Human Science Building room 111. Space is limited to 25 participants. To make reservations, call Maria – extension 3300. Lunch will be provided.

STUDENT AFFAIRS DIVISION SHARES VISION STATEMENT
  1. Picture TAMUK considered one of the best student affairs, student development programs in Texas and the best in South Texas. Students, faculty and staff will be working collaboratively at providing engaging and thought provoking opportunities for students' growth. The division will initiate contact with academic departments, seeking common ground for student initiatives and efforts.
  2. Student Affairs will lead the University in addressing student issues, model the way for professional involvement and professionalism, will be comfortable in adjusting to changes in the field, forward thinking in our planning, and fearless in generating ideas that serve the student body.
  3. Student Affairs will be leaders in the community. This will be demonstrated by the joint programs offered, shared committees, and general staff involvement in the community. Student Affairs will provide services for the community, volunteer freely and effortlessly, and provide a network of services as leaders in society. Student Affairs will help the University produce well-educated leaders and persons that effectively serve their communities personally, professionally, civically, socially, and honorably.
  4. Student Affairs will become interconnected. The lines between departments will become blurred as departments jointly work together in serving students. Departments will challenge student ideals and interests and support students through their development.
  5. Student Affairs will be technologically cutting edge, always aware of new programs, resources, and ideas available to the staff and students.
  6. Finally, Student Affairs will champion the free expression of ideas and will work hourly at creating and maintaining a safe environment for all students to safely express opposing points of view. Student Affairs will pride itself on the willingness to try. Mistakes will be valued as tools for learning.
