MS. TAMUK TO BE CROWNED THIS WEEKEND
Erevu Mwali. What? You're unfamiliar with this Swahili phrase for Intelligent Young Woman? This and other things of Africa will be shared at the Annual Miss Texas A&M University-Kingsville Scholarship Pageant Saturday, March 2, beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. Ten young women will compete for the scholarships this year. The pageant planning committee is very excited about the inclusion of the Kuumba House Dance Theatre for the evening's entertainment. The Kuumba House Dance Theatre is a dance troupe that demonstrates traditional African dance. They are coming in part due to the generosity of the Texas Commission on the Arts. Admission is free for students, staff, and faculty and $5 general admission.

ORIENTATION PROGRAM SAYS ALOHA TO 35 ORIENTATION LEADERS
For the first time in our history, the Hoggie Days Orientation Program has grown to 35 Orientation Leaders. These students were selected after going through an extensive process involving an interview and written application. The group held a congratulatory social centering on this year's Hoggie Days theme, Aloha. The following day, a small delegation of Orientation Leaders attended the Regional NODA (National Orientation Directors Association) Conference in Corpus Christi, Texas. Additional information about Hoggie Days can be attained through Jo Elda Castillo-Alaniz at x2670.
CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD REVS UP IN INDIANAPOLIS
Campus Activities Board (CAB) students Terri Limon and Ann Garza recently attended the National Association for Campus Activities Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Accompanied by Nino Mendietta and Barry McKinney, the delegation had an opportunity to preview some of the possible campus entertainment for next year on campus. As a result, CAB has booked some outstanding entertainers and lecture programs that will add to the growth and development of the TAMUK student. One event they are especially pleased to announce in advance is a lecture and performance program called, "Faces of America." The program highlights the American experience of nine characters from different ethnic backgrounds. The program, which could be beneficial to a number of academic departments, will be held on September 11, 2002, in memoriam to the September 11 tragedy. They are also excited to have booked recording artists Olive Carpet to perform at the Fall Carnival.
