RICK BARNES SHARES RISKY BUSINESS
The nationally renown speaker, Rick Barnes spoke to an audience of over 300 on Wednesday night. Mr. Barnes' humorous and informative presentation helped students understand the liability and legalities of their sponsored activities. The students overwhelmingly thought this information was informative and valuable. The exact numbers are being assessed, but approximately 98% of those in attendance felt the program was beneficial and valuable. Mr. Barnes also addressed a group of advisors earlier in the day. The 30 people in attendance were generally appreciative of the information. All student groups were required to attend by sending at least two representatives. This allowed the groups to sign up early for the Spring Fling and kept them eligible for SOFC funds.

Did you know you seat yourself from left to right, or know your coffee cup and water are on the right? How about knowing the rules to passing the salt and pepper shakers or even bread around the table? Guests learned these items and much more.
GREEK WEEK VERY SUCCESSFUL
People often view students in fraternities and sororities as a stereotype of what they have heard on the news and/or seen in movies. At TAMUK, nothing could be further from the truth. The Greek Organizations at TAMUK have celebrated their annual Greek Week, a week of activities meant to raise spirit for the University and the Greek Program. This year the group has been very successful. On Monday they had a hot dog cook-out and attended the comedian and hypnotist sponsored by the Campus Activities Board. On Tuesday they had an air-guitar contest with over 200 in attendance. On Wednesday they helped sponsor and attended the Risk Management Speaker, where the attendance exceeded 300. Thursday saw them bowling and Friday features the Greek Olympics in the Mall Area of the SUB. Students active in fraternities and sororities play a huge part in the success of campus life and student retention. If you are Greek, or would like more information about TAMUK's evolving program, please contact Mr. Barry McKinney at x2771.
STUDENT ACTIVITES and CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD BECOME CAGLE-HEADS
On April 5 the campus will play host to Nashville Recording Artists Charlie Robison and Chris Cagle. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets will be $12 for students and $15 for everyone else. Cagle has recently had three top-ten hits including "My Love Goes On and On," "Laredo," and currently "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out." Cagle's fan club refer to themselves as Cagle-Heads. The event will be held in the SPEC. Tickets will be available soon in the ID Card Center, online at www.startickets.com, or by phone at 888-783-4567.

DID YOU KNOW...
- The Battle of cancer goes on. There is no one that can say they do not have a relative or friend who has battled this vicious disease. Life Services and Wellness and Campus Housing are asking for your support in the effort to fight cancer. Please become a walker during the Relay for Life, April 19 (7 p.m. until 7 a.m.) at the Bishop High School Track. Teams of 8-15 volunteers will spend the sponsored night walking or running relay-style around a track. The goal for Bishop/Kleberg/Kenedy area is to raise $100,000. Each walker's goal is to raise $100 through sponsorships and schedule either a 30 minute or one hour intervals to keep the walk moving. If you are interested, please contact Connie Rosas-Najera or Crispin Trevino.
- It's time to submit your advertisements for the upcoming Summer/Fall course schedules, which should be on campus in late March. You can advertise your class, your club or your department. Send copy for your advertisement by 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, to Public Affairs, Room 130 College Hall, or fax number 361-593-3899.
- Bishop Hall Resident Advisors Claudia Ochoa and Patty Vazquez hosted an educational program on Tuesday February 19. The title of the program was "How to Take Care of Your Body." The guest speaker was Mrs. Amanda Silva from Jazzercise. Mrs. Silva performed a high-energy aerobic routine, which included body sculpting and a little salsa dancing. Mrs. Silva also gave tips and answered questions on how to stay in shape.
- Martin Hall Resident Advisors Jessica Olivarez and Marco Martinez will host an educational program on February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Martin Hall Lobby. The title of the program will be "Ven Y Baila" (Come and Dance Tejano Style). The guest speaker will be Josue Hernandez, a member of the Ballet Folklorico and a resident advisor from Turner Hall. His presentation will include teaching attendees how to dance Cumbia and Ranchera style dance steps. A competition will follow with a prize going to the attendee who learns to do these two dance steps the best. A fun gift will be given to each faculty member that dares to attend. Bets are on!
- As a service to the students Campus Housing sponsored a shuttle to the South Texas Heritage Ranch Festival. The shuttle took students who were volunteers with the Conner Museum, and students that did not have a vehicle to and from the J K Northway Exposition Center.
- Turner Hall House Council meet on Wednesday, February 13. During the meeting residents discussed methods of fundraising and discussed the selection of delegates going to be chosen for the Texas Residence Hall Association (TRHA) Conference scheduled for March.
- Chief Sandra Jefferson was voted a second year executive board member for the Texas/New Mexico Association of College & University Police Department Administrators during the recent regional conference in December. She was also voted in as a member of the Javelina Booster Club Board of Directors at their meeting at the January 16.
- Two ABDs attended the first faculty/staff doctoral support group last Wednesday evening. There is plenty of room for more. If you are standing still, looking at the stripes on the hurdle in front of you, come to the group meeting every Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the SUB Javelina Room. For more information please contact Dr. Dave Braverman at x3606.
- Campus Housing and the University Police Department often work closely together for the strangest of reasons. Because of this they have formed a unique partnership and are developing plans for an interdepartmental mini-workshop. Besides reviewing policy protocols of the respective departments, there will also be a number of fun activities. The purpose of the mini-workshop is to increase understanding of each others roles, strengthen communication, and build teamwork between the two groups.
