HEALTH CENTER AND STUDENT SERVICE FEE INCREASES PASS AT STUDENT REFERENDUM
On Tuesday, February 12, the Health Center Fee and Student Service Fee proposed increases passed the student referendum. The affirmative vote by the student body raises the health center fee from $30 to $45 a semester. The Student Service Fee is raised from $16 to $20 a credit hour. The passage of these two fees adds new resources for services benefiting students. The health fee increases resources available for costly medical services and allows the department to better provide for women's health care, medications, and disability services. The student service fee increases the available resources that fund student government, clubs & organizations, KTAI, Band, Athletics, and other programs throughout campus. There were two other proposed fees on the ballot -- a Theater Arts of $3 per semester and the International Education fee from $1 to $2. Both failed to capture enough student votes.
WOMEN'S CENTER SPONSORS SUCCESSFUL MINI-CONFERENCE FOR DADS
"Fatherhood Secrets: Becoming the best dad you can be" was held in the SUB on February 12 from 8:30 - 1:30 p.m. Over 26 fathers participated in the event. Comments included, "very helpful, it was nice to know I wasn't alone in dealing with these challenges, and I was finally able to let my guard down and learn from other Dads." Why did the Women's Center put on a conference for Dads? -- Because Dads have daughters...and sons who interact with women. 24.7 million children (36%) live absent their biological father. 25% live with single mothers. Finally, children who live absent their biological father are more likely to be poor and experience educational, health and emotional problems. Great job Women's Center for thinking outside the box!
