ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT CANDIDATE VISITS CAMPUS
Louis T. Levy, a candidate for the position of Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management, will interview on campus January 22, 2001. The all-campus open forum will be at 1:15 pm in the Sam Fore Hall Blue Room. Mr. Levy is currently the Director of Admissions and Records at Austin Community College in Austin, TX. In this role he manages admissions and records for six campuses with a student population of 29,000 full-time students and a total student population of 51,000. He supervises 50 employees and manages a budget over $1,000,000. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.
TAMUK CHEERLEADERS MAKE NATIONAL TOP TEN
The TAMUK Cheer Team placed 10th nationwide at the national competition held January 11-14 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This was the first time that the TAMUK Cheerleaders have entered the nationals and they were the only school in their division to be competing for the title for the first time. Congratulations to the entire team for being outstanding ambassadors for the university and the program.
NEWSPAPERS AND COFFEE AVAILABLE FOR ALL FACULTY AND STAFF
By the generosity of Sodexho Marriott and Housing, each morning from 7:30 - 9:30 am in the Javelina Cafe (located on the SUB first floor) coffee is available "free of charge" for all faculty and staff. Also available will be Chronicles of Higher Education, the USA Today, Corpus Christi Caller Times, San Antonio Express News, and the Houston Chronicle. Faculty and staff are invited to stop by, solve the world's problems, and join in this collegial opportunity. Thanks, Sodexho Marriott and Housing.
LEIGHANN LORD LAUGHS UP PACKED HOUSE
Leighann Lord had Turner-Bishop Hall rolling in laughter last night. Over 125 students, faculty, staff, and families were in attendance. Ms. Lord has been seen on the Apollo Comedy Hour, Def Comedy All Star Jam, Lifetime Girls' Night Out and VH-1 Stand-Up Spotlight. Admission was free and sponsored by Campus Activities Board in conjunction with Campus Housing.
MODERN DAY HOUDINI TO PERFORM
Kevin and Cindy Spencer (be sure to click their name - it is cool!) are award-winning entertainers that have taken the art of illusion to new heights. Touring throughout the United States, Mexico, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia, and performing for standing room only crowds, the couple will perform here at TAMUK. The Spencer's have earned rave reviews and several awards including Performing Arts Entertainers of the Year, Entertainers of the Year, Best Major Performance and Best Touring Production. The Spencer's will mystify the audience at Jones Auditorium on Tuesday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is as follows: Students with TAMUK ID - Free; Faculty and Staff - $2, and General Admission - $5.
TAMUK STUDENTS TRAVEL TO COLLEGE STATION
Barbara Collins from Campus Housing and Tamara Hoodye from Student Support Services will be traveling on January 19th - 21st to College Station. They will be taking twelve TAMUK students to attend the 13th Annual Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference. The conference will provide the students with leadership skills as well as an opportunity to fellowship with other student leaders from many other universities across the nation.
BHACC ESSAY CONTEST
The Black Heritage/Awareness Celebration Committee has many events planned for the month of February. The essay contest begins January 16th - February 21st. Please encourage all students to participate in the contest. The essay topic is "The Dream of the New Millennium: Then and Now." There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. GRADUATE SCHOOL RECRUITERS ON CAMPUS
The Bush School of Government & Public Affairs will be on campus on Tuesday,
January 23, to speak to students who may be interested in pursuing graduate
education (at TAMU College Station) in public service. Students can check
out their web site at http://bush.tamu.edu and can contact Career Services for more information. The recruiters will be available for one-on-one consultation all afternoon on the 23rd. The deadline for application to the Bush School is January 31.
SUB GETS NEW FURNITURE
"Way cool," said one student about the chairs and couches now in the Student Union Building. Although many of the wooden benches still remain, students and guests may now sit comfortably on several different chairs and couches throughout the first floor of the SUB. Look for many other little enhancements to TAMUK's "living room" throughout the semester.

WANTED ORIENTATION LEADERS!
The orientation program is recruiting new orientation leaders. The Orientation Leader is a volunteer student position
that serves as a peer mentor to incoming new students. Minimum qualifications are at least one completed semester at TAMUK and a 2.5 cumulative GPA. There will be two informational meetings on January 25 and January 31 at 3:00 pm (SUB Room 301-Student Activities Office). Applications are available at the Student Activities Office and
the application deadline is on February 5th. Call Jo Elda at 593-4064.
MISS TAMUK PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT
The Miss Texas A&M University-Kingsville Scholarship Pageant 2001 will be held on February 24th at Jones Auditorium (7:30 pm). The following scholarship awards are available:
Miss TAMUK 2001: $1,000;
1st Runner-up: $700;
2nd Runner-up: $500;
3rd Runner-up: $250;
4th Runner-up: $100
If you know of any student interested in competing, applications are available at the Student Activities Office SUB 301. The deadline is Wednesday, January 31.

WOMEN'S CENTER FILM FESTIVAL - LOOK FOR DETAILS IN NEXT WEEKS E-NEWS
It is coming. Look for news next week on the upcoming women's film festival February 12-16, 2001, sponsored by the TAMUK Women's Center. The filmfest will provide an opportunity to extend student learning about women issues such as leadership, advertisings image of women, body image, and much more.
