
General Information:
Cadets attending Air Assault School will not receive pay or allowances while
attending training.
The US Army Air Assault School is a 10-day course of instruction conducted at several locations across the country. The school focuses on Combat Assault Operations involving associated equipment and US Army rotary-wing aircraft. Students range from private to general officer and each must adhere to the same high standards of performance to earn the Air Assault Badge. All personnel must attend classes and pass oral, written, and physical exams.
Cadets, prior to attending Air Assault School , need training on rope climbing techniques, sling load operations, rappel operations and intense road marching.
Attendance Prerequisites:
Eligibility:
Contracted MS I’s and II’s have priority to attend Air Assault training,
followed by MS III’s who have attended Warrior Forge; MS I and MS II who are
non-contracted; MS-IV, V, VI and MS III cadets who have not attended
Warrior Forge.
Completion cadets and newly commissioned 2LTs are not eligible to attend Air Assault training.
MS I students, however, must be prior service.
Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) cadets are eligible to participate in this
training; however, non-SMP cadets should be given the priority for the slots.
Physical Fitness:
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) must be administered no more than 30 days
before reporting to Air Assault training. This requirement cannot be waived –
bottom line. This includes cadets from Warrior Forge. Cadets must score a minimum 180
points (60 in each category) using the 17-21 year old age group standards
regardless of the cadet's actual age. Results must be recorded on a valid DA
Form 705 and will be hand carried to the school.
Medical/Dental:
Cadets who are scheduled for Air Assault training must have a physical exam
within 24 months of the class start date and must hand carry a copy when cadets
report for training. Cadets must also provide a dental record statement as
required by Western Region Reg 40-1. Moreover, cadets must have a panographic
radiograph on file at their battalion (school) headquarters.
Ft Campbell:
Cadets must have military issue eyewear to attend AAS at Ft Campbell. Cadets
CANNOT WEAR contact lens or civilian glasses any time during AAS training.
Travel Information:
AAS Schofield Barracks,
Hawaii:
All cadets attending Air Assault training will be issued a one-way ticket by
their battalions. Cadets are processed as a group at Fort Lewis prior to
departure for Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Purpose of processing at Fort Lewis
is to ensure that cadets records are in order, i.e., APFT within 30 days, ID
cards, updated physical, and to ensure cadets have proper equipment for
training.
Cadets arriving by air to the SEATAC International Airport will report to the Advanced Camp Liaison at the USO. Cadets authorized to travel by POV will report to Bldg. 9D40 on North Fort Lewis in the Advanced Camp training area. All cadets will comply with the report date on their orders with arrival times between 1200 – 1600 hours.
Cadets NOT AT Warrior Forge will fax (call (253) 967-9896 or
9864 for fax number) a copy of their orders to CPDT Cell so Warrior Forge will arrange to
get their airline tickets for Hawaii. In addition, attach a copy of cadets
travel information to SEATAC Airport.
Cadets will travel as a group to the Honolulu International Airport.
Representatives of the Air Assault School will pick up the cadets and transport
them to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
AAS Ft Campbell, Kentucky: Government transportation is not available between the airport and Ft Campbell. Commercial transportation will cost approximately $20.00 each way. Cadets should keep all receipts and file for reimbursement upon their return to campus.
Schedule departure flights after 1700 hours on the class end date.
Cadets report to Bldg 1581, NLT 1200 hours the day before the class start date. Cadets must have Ft Campbell Form 4137 signed by PMS when reporting. Fax completed 4137 to AAS LNO at the following number (931) 221-6147).
Administrative Instructions:
Cadets must have
a round trip ticket prior to reporting to the school unless they are Warrior
Forge
attendees. Cadets must have at least fifteen (15) copies of their orders in
their possession. Additionally, cadets should bring about $100.00 for personal
expenses. Each student must maintain their own uniform and equipment. Cadets
will be required to clean their billets and to perform duties when directed by
the company.
Emergency contact with the cadet may be made either through the Red Cross or by
contacting the Western Region Training Division or the Air
Assault
School
directly.
Uniform And Equipment Requirements
All cadets
attending Air Assault training will meet the Army appearance and inspection
standards. Hair will be maintained IAW
AR
670-1. Females
will not use metal, plastic pins or barrettes to secure their hair. Only
hairnets will be used. Additionally, male cadets will adhere to the standards of
AR 670-1 regarding facial hair. Female cadets will not wear cosmetics in the
training area. Contact lenses will not be worn during training.
