Research Compliance Guidelines

All investigators conducting funded or unfunded research at Texas A&M University-Kingsville must have approval for conducting research that involves human subjects, animals, recombinant DNA, transgenic organisms, pests and pathogens.  All research projects/proposals must submit a Project Hazard Assessment. Please answer the following questions to determine which forms you should submit for review and approval:

Does your research involve the use of animals?

  1. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Form. (IACUC Initial Form)
  2. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Project Hazard Assessment Form. (PHA Form)
  3. If your research also uses or risks exposure to recombinant DNA, molecular biological techniques, pathogens (plant-, human-, animal-specific or zoonotic), transgenic or transformed organisms or biological toxins then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Biosafety Committee Form. (Biosafety Form)
  4. If your research also uses human subjects then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Review Board Form. (IRB Form)

Does your research involve the use of recombinant DNA, molecular biological techniques, pathogens (plant-, human-, animal-specific or zoonotic), transgenic or transformed organisms or biological toxins?

  1. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Biosafety Committee Form. (Biosafety Form)
  2. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Project Hazard Assessment Form. (PHA Form)
  3. If your research also uses human body fluids and requires the acquisition of these fluids from human subjects then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Review Board Form. (IRB Form)
  4. If your research also uses animals then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Form. (IACUC Initial Form)

Does your research only involve the use of chemicals?

  1. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Project Hazard Assessment Form (PHA Form).
  2. If your research also uses or risks exposure to recombinant DNA, molecular biological techniques, pathogens (plant-, human-, animal-specific or zoonotic), transgenic or transformed organisms or biological toxins then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Biosafety Committee Form. (Biosafety Form)
  3. If your research also uses human body fluids and requires the acquisitionof these fluids from human subjects then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Review Board Form. (IRB Form)
  4. If your research also uses animals then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Form. (IACUC Initial Form)


Does your research involve the use of human subjects (survey-based research and direct experimentation on humans)?

  1. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Review Board Form.  (IRB Form).
  2. Prepare and submit the TAMUK Project Hazard Assessment Form. (PHA Form)
  3. If your research also uses recombinant DNA, molecular biological techniques, pathogens (plant-, human-, animal-specific or zoonotic), transgenic or transformed organisms or biological toxins then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Biosafety Committee Form. (Biosafety Form)
  4. If your research also uses animals then you must also prepare and submit the TAMUK Institutional Care and Use Committee Form. (IACUC Initial Form)
