Important Announcement!!!

Billy Sandifer's 12th annual Big Shell Beach Clean Up was a great success!!!

First off, we would like to thank everyone who got out there and volunteered on March 10.  The clean up was the best in 12 years and has gotten better every year.  440 people picked up 95,560 lbs (47.78 tons) of trash from 13 miles of the precious Padre Island National Seashore.  In 12 years, 2,513 volunteers have picked up  914,920 pounds of trash.  We are all looking forward to next year!

After the clean up, members of our club decided to do a little bit of CPR Shark fishing!  Report will be up soon!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The TAMUK Anglers are currently looking for volunteers for the 12th annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup on Saturday March 10, 2007.   At the event, a twelve mile section of beach is cleaned up and usually about 40 tons of trash are removed from the Padre Island National Seashore.  We have participated in the event for the past two years and look forward to the third time being the charm!  Our goal is to motivate 50 TAMUK students, faculty, staff and alumni to represent our school.  If you have any questions concerning transportation to and from the event, weather conditions, what to wear etc...  contact Andrew Mason at 361-522-2329 or email us at tamukanglers@gmail.com.  Thanks a lot!  We look forward to hearing from you!

Red Tide!

All of the Corpus Christi coast has been taken over by Red Tide.  According to Capt. Billy Sandifer, it is moving south.  It is not recommended that you fish in water where Red Tide is present.  The algae has an effect on the respiratory system and can cause itching in the throat and coughing.  It is advised that you avoid Red Tide whenever possible.

BAFFIN BAY FISHING TRIP!!!!

Our next trip will be a wade fishing trip to Baffin Bay on Saturday, October 14.  Due to liabilities that we take on during such trips we encourage everyone to go to the meeting and ask any questions that you might have.  Baffin Bay presents many dangers for wade fishermen and we would like to keep everyone as safe as possible.  Such dangers include, but are not limited to, hook puncture wounds, venomous fish, and stingrays.  We will offer tips to avoid such dangers at our meetings, so please attend!

Hello everyone, this weekend at Sharkathon we were approached by Captain Billy Sandifer with a VERY important announcement.

As some of us know the channel at Port Mansfield has experienced a gradual decrease in depth; soon there will be no channel whatsoever.  Some of the consequences include, but are not limited to:

-The channel will no longer be accessible by boats

-We will lose the water quality that has produced the phenomenal fishing in the Laguna Madre

-The lack of a pathway to the gulf will give fisherman little reason to fish Port Mansfield, hence the town will dry up and cease to exist

-Drug runners will be able to wade their way across the channel to the Padre Island National Seashore where there is already drug trafficking problem

I have seen the impacts of the silting up of the channel first hand as our very own Dr. Bill Heenan has relocated his boat to Port Aransas and now has no business in Port Mansfield.  This idea will circulate to other offshore anglers and soon Port Mansfield will be done for.  Captain Billy asks that we fill out the petition attached to this email and send it to the address on the file.  The petition will give the corp. of engineers a reason to get off their butts and find the money to dredge that channel!  Thank you for your participation in this very crucial matter and we'll hope that the fishery and town that we all know and love will come back in full force!
