A gift of $12,000 was made by the B.C. & Addie Brookshire Foundation to the Marc Cisneros Center for Young Children (CCYC) at the Texas A&M University-Kingsville campus to support the construction of the Brookshire Splash Pad. A check-passing ceremony took place yesterday at the CCYC Annual Fajita Fundraiser.

The Brookshire Splash Pad will not only assist young children with their developmental skills, but it will aid as a teaching tool to the laboratory students who are seeking a degree in human development and family studies or early childhood education.  The project will be completed this summer, just in time to add excitement to the CCYC’s “wacky Wednesday water days” that occur weekly throughout the summer.

“The splash pad is going to be a great addition on the CCYC playground and will be especially awesome for our Wednesday water days,” said Lisa Turcotte, Director of the CCYC. “Infants and toddlers will reap great play benefits by using this new equipment.”

This gift is one of many to support youth in the Kingsville area. According to Kleberg County’s Parks and Recreation website, “The Brookshires had an immense love for children which prompted them to start the Brookshire Foundation. The Foundation continues to support projects and activities that involve children to this day.”

The Brookshire Foundation Board of Directors includes Clyde Allen, Roy Cantu, Martin Chiuminatto, Bill Colston, Jr., Therese Crocker, Milton Kimball, James Patten, Fran Sharpe, Wayne Sheffey, Sylvia Woelfel and Catherine Yaklin. The CCYC advisory board includes Ruben Cantu, Jane Dodds, Heather Elsik, Julie Lowry and Jean Claire Turcotte.
