Texas A&M-Kingsville Gears Up for Homecoming 2010

It’s time to dust off that old blue and gold letter jacket and dig the beanie cap out of the attic because it’s time for a Javelina Homecoming at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. A week of special events begins Monday, Oct. 11, and concludes Saturday, Oct. 16, with a football game at Javelina Stadium.
This year the offices of student activities and alumni affairs and the Campus Activities Board had a full week of activities planned. The Javelina Alumni Association will honor three alumni. Col. Edward J. Preston Jr., Class of 1962, and Janell Kleberg, Class of 1974, are the Distinguished Alumni this year and Dr. Fidel Hernandez, Class of 1999, is the Rising Star Award winner.
The finalists for Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at the fall carnival with the winners announced during halftime of Saturday’s football game.
Monday, October 11
7 p.m. Mentalist Craig Karges performs in ballroom A of the Memorial Student Union Building. This event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.
Tuesday, October 12
7 p.m. Javelina volleyball takes on St. Edwards at the Kingsville Hampton Inn Court in the Steinke Physical Education Center.
8:30 p.m. The Talent Show will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Memorial Student Union Building.
Wednesday, October 13
5 p.m. The fall carnival will be held on University Boulevard with food and games booths provided by student organizations.
Thursday, October 14
6 p.m. The Homecoming Parade will be held in downtown Kingsville.
Immediately following the parade will be the Distinguished Alumni Community Reception at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Center.
7:15 p.m. The Hog Call and bonfire will be held west of Javelina Stadium.
Friday, October 15
11 a.m. Registration begins for the EmbroidMe Homecoming 2010 Golf Classic at L.E. Ramey Golf Course. Lunch will be at noon with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Noon The Class of 1960 will be honored for their 50th reunion with a luncheon in room 219A of the Memorial Student Union Building.
8 p.m. The Blue and Gold Social is a get together for current students to mingle with graduates from the classes of 2000 and 2005.
Saturday, October 16
8:15 a.m. Check-in begins in the Memorial Student Union Building courtyard for the Breast Cancer Walk/Run.
9 a.m. The Javelina Alumni Association will have their General Meeting in the Alumni Room of Honor in the Memorial Student Union Building
10 a.m. The business meeting of the Javelina Alumni Association will begin, also in the Alumni Room of Honor. The transition of officers will take place at this meeting.
Noon This year's two Distinguished Alumni and one Rising Star winners will be honored at the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon in the Grand Ballroom of the Memorial Student Union Building. The luncheon is presented by Kleberg Bank.
2 to 3:30 p.m. College open houses will be held across campus at the following locations:
Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences – room 102 of the Kleberg Agriculture Building and the living room of the Human Sciences Building
College of Arts and Sciences – the new pavilion in the mall area next to the Memorial Student Union Building
College of Education and Human Performance – room 122 of Rhode Hall
College of Business Administration – room 111 of the Business Administration Building
Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering – lobby of the Javelina Engineering Complex
University College – east entrance lobby (from University Boulevard) of Eckhardt Hall
2:30 p.m. The Alumni Fajita Cook-off will begin at the tailgate area of Javelina Stadium. This event is sponsored by El Dorado Restaurant.
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The Homecoming Tailgate will be held in the tailgate area of Javelina Stadium.
7 p.m. Kickoff of the football game pitting the Javelinas against West Texas A&M University.
