Students Vie for Homecoming King, Queen

Homecoming 2010 is right around the corner at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and 10 men and 12 women have been sponsored by their student organizations to run for the coveted positions of Homecoming King and Queen.

Students will begin voting Monday, Oct. 11, and the top five finalists will be announced at the Fall Carnival Wednesday, Oct. 13. Royalty will be crowned during halftime of the Javelina football game beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, against West Texas A&M University.

Queen candidates include
Rhonida A. Carter, a senior accounting major from Houston and sponsored by the Residence Hall Association;
Deborah A. Gerd, a senior English major from Kingsville and sponsored by Unity; 
Leanne Guerra, a senior human development and family studies major from Pharr and sponsored by the Campus Activities Board;
Daniella Lopez, a senior biomedical sciences major from Edinburg and sponsored by the American Medical Student Association;
Myranda Montalvo, a sophomore family and consumer science education major from McAllen and sponsored by the Child Development Club;
Lizette M. Paceley, a junior English major from Freer and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta; 
Andrea Palacios, a sophomore elementary education major from Corpus Christi and sponsored by the Catholic Student Organization;
Raquel Rodriguez, a freshman criminology and psychology major from San Antonio and sponsored by the Psychology Club;
Rachel Sims, a sophomore family and consumer science major from Dallas and sponsored by Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Association of Texas;
Courtney Trevino, a junior criminology major from Harlingen and sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha; 
Erika Villarreal, a senior psychology major from Pasadena and sponsored by Delta Phi Epsilon; and
Wendy Willey, a senior kinesiology major from Port Aransas and sponsored by the HKN Club.

King candidates include
Emilio Alaniz III, a senior psychology major from Premont and sponsored by Unity; 
Joe W. Alvarez, a junior civil engineering major from Alice and sponsored by the Campus Activities Board;
Matthew Casanova, a senior biomedical sciences major from San Antonio and sponsored by Sigma Chi, Zeta Pi chapter;
Dondi Cooks II, a senior communications major from Dallas and sponsored by the International Student Organization; 
Tony Gutierrez, a senior architectural engineering major from Pharr and sponsored by Kappa Kappa Psi; 
Louie Longoria, a senior accounting major from Falfurrias and sponsored by the Catholic Student Organization; 
Roy Ousley, a senior kinesiology major from La Vernia and sponsored by the HKN Club; 
Cory Scarborough, a sophomore liberal arts major from Bishop and sponsored by Gamerz Elite; 
Charles B. Simmons III, a senior pre physical therapy major from Converse and sponsored by the Residence Hall Association; and
