University to Host Webcast Viewing of Latino Education Summit from California State University

As the nation’s leading scholars on Latino education gather to discuss the future of Latino issues during the Latino Education and Advocacy Day Summit at California State University-San Bernardino, Texas A&M University-Kingsville will provide those interested with an opportunity to view the conference locally via the internet.

The bilingual education department in the College of Education will sponsor a free live webcast of the summit from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 219 of the Memorial Student Union Building.

The one-day summit—“A Day of Courageous Conversations”—will include various sessions on education ranging from accessibility of educational opportunities to promoting youth leadership. The summit will also feature several keynote speakers including:

  • Sylvia Mendez, civil rights activist and plaintiff in Mendez v. Westminster (1946), the historic precursor to Brown v. Board of Education
  • Dr. Juan Sepúlveda, director of the White House Initiative on the Educational Excellence of Hispanic Americans
  • Dolores Huerta, president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation and co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union.
