Not Related Except By Royal Homecoming Decree: Reyes And Reyes Named Homecoming King, Queen

They started the evening as two royalty hopefuls who simply shared the same last name, but by night’s end, Raul Reyes from Eagle Pass and Almendra Reyes from San Fernando, Mexico, were joined as 2007 royalty.
The two were crowned Homecoming King and Queen at Texas A&M University-Kingsville during halftime ceremonies Saturday, Oct. 13.
Raul Reyes represented the Indian Student Association. He is a junior music education major. Almendra Reyes represented the Fashion Interior and Merchandising Group. She is a sophomore international business major.
In the queen’s competition, Veronica L. Rodriguez, a senior kinesiology major from Robstown was first runner up and Anna Olivarez, a senior marketing major from Kingsville was second runner up. They represented the Health and Kinesiology Club and Delta Sigma Pi, respectively.
The remaining queen finalists were Michelle Gutierrez, a junior animal science major from Edinburg, sponsored by Theta Phi Alpha, and Maria L. Vielma, a junior music education major from Eagle Pass, sponsored by the Catholic Student Organization.
In the king contest, Manuel I. Vasquez, a junior kinesiology major from Beeville, was first runner up and Luis “Chumps” Cruz, a senior accounting major from Carrizo Springs, was second runner up. They represented the Health and Kinesiology Club and Delta Sigma Pi, respectively.
The remaining king finalists were Steven Valladares, a senior business management major from Houston, sponsored by Omega Delta Phi, and Jason Smith, a senior agriculture science major from McAllen, sponsored by the Residence Hall Association.
The winners and runners-up were selected by student vote from among 19 queen candidates and 10 king candidates.
