J Corp – Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s Javelina College Readiness Project – is now accepting applications for a two-week math boot camp for area students, to be held Aug. 6-15.
The program is offered to recent high school graduates who will enter Texas A&M-Kingsville in fall 2007 and will be held 8 a.m.-noon each day on the A&M-Kingsville campus. To request an application and obtain more information, contact Dr. Dann Brown, dean of University College, at 361-593-3290. Deadline to apply is 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 31.
During the program, students who have not achieved college-readiness in mathematics will participate in a variety of activities, including traditional lectures, hands-on group and laboratory activities and computer-aided instruction. Under the guidance of A&M-Kingsville math and algebra faculty, the program will provide students with in-depth refresher instruction to build academic skills and confidence in mathematics.
The program will conclude with placement testing to assess skill development and college readiness. Those students demonstrating readiness for college-level mathematics will be advised accordingly in advance of the first day of fall 2007 classes at A&M-Kingsville, Brown said.
J Corp is housed in A&M-Kingsville’s University College, which serves as the foundation for student development of academic skills in algebra, reading and writing. Developmental education students receive high-quality instruction in intelligent classrooms and have access to services dedicated for their academic success, including supplemental instruction and tutoring.
