Five honored as distinguished students during summer commencement

Distinguished Students


Five graduates at Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s summer commencement ceremony received the Distinguished Undergraduate Student Award sponsored by the Student Government Association. Only one bachelor’s degree student from each college receives the award.

To be nominated, a student must be a graduating senior with no less than 60 credit hours earned at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and must be involved in extracurricular activities. The student also must have the endorsement of the dean of the college from which he/she receives a degree.

Award winners include Caleb Pillado León, Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering; David Aaron Guerra, College of Arts and Sciences; Delfino Rodriguez, College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences; Laura Leticia Huerta, Texas A&M University-Kingsville System Center-San Antonio; and Loraine Underbrink Russek, College of Business Administration.

León, of Kingsville, received a degree in electrical engineering. He was on the honor roll and is treasurer of Chi Alpha Student Organization. León is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Kingsville resident Guerra received a degree in biology. He is vice president of the Student Government Association and served on the Texas A&M University Chancellor Student Advisory Board. He is a member of the American Medical Student Association and the Life Science Club. Guerra has been on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll, is a member of the National Scholars Honor Society and was nominated to the Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges.

Rodriguez is from Lyford. He received a degree in plant and soil science. He is vice president of the Horticulture Club and a member of Alpha Tau Alpha. Rodriguez has been on the President’s List and Dean’s List and is recipient of the Kingsville Garden Club Scholarship.

Huerta, from San Antonio, received a degree in interdisciplinary studies. She has been on the Dean’s List and is a Catholic Charities volunteer.

Russek, of Kingsville, received a degree in business management. She is a member of Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society and Alpha Chi National Honor Society. She has been on the President’s List, Dean’s List and Honor Roll.
