Leonard Brennan (Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute) has received $125,000 from the Lawrence Family Foundation for “A DNA Sequencer and Associated Equipment to Strengthen Research Infrastructure of the Richard M. Kleberg Jr. Center for Quail Research at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.”

Ni-Bin Chang (environmental & civil engineering) has received $30,000 from the city of Harlingen for the “Composting Feasibility Study and Sustainability Assessment for the City of Harlingen.” In addition, Chang has received $10,000 from the city of Edinburg for “Compost Treatability Study and Pilot Plant Planning.”

Jianhong “Jennifer” Ren (environmental & civil engineering) has received $80,563 from the National Science Foundation for “CAREER: Effects of Particle Aggregation/Disaggregation and Precipitation on Sediment and Contaminant Transport in River Systems.”

Tom L. McGehee (physics/geosciences) has received $24,956 from Battelle Columbus Division for “Submersion Tests, Salt Tolerance Sensitivity Studies and Shear Stress Evaluation of Topein Asphalts Used to Encapsulate Contaminants after a Dirty Bomb Attack.”

Michelle R. Johnson-Vela (Spanish, language and literature) has received $24,964 from the National Endowment for the Humanities for “Hispanic Studies in South Texas.”

Paula Maywald (Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute) has received $20,000 from the Joan & Herb Kelleher Charitable Foundation for “South Texas Natives.” In addition, Maywald received $16,000 from the Rancho Blanco Corporation for “Development of Native and Improved Forages for Bobwhite Quail Habitat and Food at Rancho Blanco.”

Bart Ballard (Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute) has received $6,000 from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation for “Student Experience in Coastal Ecology.”

George Vargas (art) has received $1,000 from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation for “History Fair 2005.”

Cecilia Hunter (South Texas Archives) received $3,000 from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation for “South Texas Archives Renovation Project.”
