Memorial set for Dr. John W. Glock
A memorial service for Dr. John W. Glock, former dean of the College of Teacher Education at Texas A&I University and a faculty member for 25 years, will be held on Saturday, January 15, at 11 a.m. at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.
Glock had been living in a nursing home in Deer Park. He is survived by his wife Rhoda, who also lives in Deer Park, in a retirement center. Their children JoAnn, John, Janice and Jim are all graduates of Texas A&I University and all are involved in teaching.
Glock joined the A&I faculty in 1955. He became director of the Teacher Education division in 1959 and was designated a dean when the division became a school in 1967. Following his retirement in July 1979, the John W. Glock Scholarship was established for junior teacher education majors and awarded for the first time in the fall of 1981.
Born in Malmo, Nebraska, Glock went on to Plainview, Nebraska for his high school education. He would earn his B.A. in biology from Nebraska State College in 1940.
Glock would go on to be trained as a Navy pilot at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station and marry wife Rhoda at the base chapel in 1942. He would earn three battle stars during World War II.
Later, he earned both his M.A. in school administration and his Ed.D. in administration from the University of Nebraska.
Glock served as superintendent of schools at Newman Grove, Nebraska. Glock served on the board of the First United Methodist Church as well as the boards of directors of the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce and Youth City. He was a past president of the Javelina Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Retired Officers Association

Black Heritage
Because the university is closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday observance, activities have been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27. The Black Heritage Awareness Month committee is planning a day of events for A Day to Care, A Day to Share.
Included is a Fitness Fund Raiser to benefit the Douglas Center where university faculty, staff and administrators will volunteer their time to ride stationary bicycles located in the Memorial Student Union Building. Donations will be taken.
There also will be a Health Fair that will include several different medical screenings. The Health Fair and the Fitness Fund Raiser will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In the evening, the first Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Outstanding Service Award will be given during a special ceremony from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in room 219 A&B in the Memorial Student Union Building.

SGA Tsunami Relief Fund Raiser
The Student Government Association has organized a fund raising effort to benefit the victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami. Starting today, Friday, Jan. 14, a booth will be set up in the Memorial Student Union Building to collect funds.
Senators will be setting up booths in their colleges’ buildings some time during the next two weeks. Other events may be planned and will be announced at a later date.
SGA President Ricardo Barrera said he wants to have the relief effort wrapped up in two weeks, closing on Friday, Jan. 28.
All money raised will be sent to the American Red Cross for use in the relief efforts for all those affected by the tsunami.

Members of the Steering Committee for the 2005 President’s Legacy Ball gathered this week to address invitations.  Pictured are, from left, Charis Yaklin, Patricia Cypher, Maria Estela Garcia, Evelyn Alexander, Bobbie Nix and Claudia Harrel.  A&M-Kingsville’s president and first lady, Rumaldo and Teresa Juarez, will host the event Saturday, February 19, in the Grand Ballrooms of the Memorial Student Union Building.  The evening will feature dinner, dancing and a silent auction, and the unveiling of plaques for the Legacy Wall of Honor. The wall is a tribute to all individuals, families, corporations and foundations that have made cumulative donations of more than $100,000 to the university.  Musical entertainment will be provided by Eclipse Band & Orchestra, a nine-piece variety dance group from Houston. President's list for Fall 2004 released

Texas A&M University-Kingsville has released the names of the students who made the President’s List for the fall 2004 semester. In order to qualify for the prestigious President’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 semester hours and receive a 4.0 grade point average for the semester. During the spring semester 96 students received the perfect grade point average. Read more»
