The Who’s Who Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m.  The ceremony will be held in the Memorial Student Union Building in Ballroom A.

The Office of Public Relations is now scheduling times for faculty/professional staff portraits for official use in news releases, web pages and other university publications. If you are new to our campus community or don't have a recent photo on file with Public Relations, please call our office at 593-2014 to schedule an appointment.

Times are available on Tuesday, Oct. 26. It's quick and painless, we promise!


The Jernigan Library has scheduled workshops for the fall semester. All workshops are held in room 123 in the library. Call the reference desk at 361-593-3319 to reserve a space or for more information. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend on a first come, first serve basis.

Introduction to PowerPoint will be taught from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1. Students will learn the basics, including how to create a basic presentation, insert pictures and add simple animation.

APA Documentation Style will be held twice during the week. It will be held at 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4. Students will learn to properly cite sources used in research using the APA documentation style.

Beginning Excel also will be taught twice during the week, from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, and again from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3. Students will learn the basics of cell structure using macros and mathematical functions.

PowerPoint: Tables and Graphs will be taught from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3. Students will learn how to work with tables and graphs within PowerPoint.

As many of you know it is hurricane season in the Coastal Bend. Fortunately there are no storms in the Gulf aiming for Texas at the moment. Nonetheless, as a university community we should continue to prepare ourselves should a hurricane or tropical storm reach us sometime this season.

The Crisis Management Team would like every member of the Javelina family to review the hurricane procedures for the university. These may be viewed online here.

Each season these procedures are posted on the front page of the website for the duration of the season.

Dr. John C. Perez, biology Regents professor and director of the Natural Toxins Research Center and U.S. Army Lieutenant General Ricardo S. Sanchez, a Texas A&I University alumnus, were named Outstanding Minority Access Role Models. The two were nominated through a collaboration of the Office of the Provost and the Special Programs department at A&M-Kingsville.

Jacob Galan, a Ronald McNair Scholar and chemistry graduate student from Kingsville, accepted the award for Outstanding Faculty Researcher on behalf of Perez. Cadet Joe Monrial, ROTC, from Amarillo, accepted the award for Outstanding Alum on behalf of Lieutenant General Sanchez.

Also in attendance at the conference were Dr. Kay Clayton, provost and vice president of academic affairs, and Mary L. Gonzalez, assistant vice president for Special Programs.

Quilt display includes centennial heritage piece
The newest exhibit at the John E. Conner Museum at Texas A&M University-Kingsville includes over 17 hand-sewn quilts made by a group of women from Kingsville called the Saturday Quilters. The new exhibit goes on display Saturday, Oct. 23, and ends Thursday, Dec. 23. read more»

A&M-Kingsville researcher given two grants
for bobwhite quail research
 

Assistant professor and research scientist Dr. Fidel Hernandez was awarded two grants totaling $55,000 to be used for bobwhite quail research. Hernandez has many research interests but his main focus is northern bobwhite quail ecology and range management.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s that time again: Road Rally 2004, brought to you by last year’s winners, Randy’s Angels, henceforth known as The Commission of Road Rally Affairs.  Begin assembling your teams immediately and register by noon Wednesday, Nov. 3.  This is an opportunity to familiarize new Javelina faculty and staff with our campus.  We also try to foster collegiality as we hoof our way to the finish line.

Mark your calendar: Friday, November 12, 3-5 p.m.

Round up your team: Each team consists of 4-5 university faculty and/or staff. At least one member of each team must have worked at A&M-Kingsville for less than 3 years.
