As many of you know it is hurricane season in the Coastal Bend. Fortunately there are no storms in the Gulf aiming for Texas at the moment. Nonetheless, as a university community we should continue to prepare ourselves should a hurricane or tropical storm reach us sometime this season.

The Crisis Management Team would like every member of the Javelina family to review the hurricane procedures for the university. These may be viewed online here.

Each season these procedures are posted on the front page of the website for the duration of the season.

The Jernigan Library has scheduled workshops for the fall semester. All workshops are held in room 123 in the library. Call the reference desk at 361-593-3319 to reserve a space or for more information. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend on a first come, first serve basis.

Three classes will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28. Introduction to Internet Searching will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Students will learn basic internet searching strategies using search engines and subject directories.

From 3:30 to 5 p.m. Resources in Education will be taught. Those attending will learn to find and use educational resources including electronic databases and internet resources.

The third course for Sept. 28 is Customizing your PowerPoint from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This is a course for students who have previous experience with PowerPoint and want to learn to customize their presentations.
A course entitled Introduction to TOXNET will be taught from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1. Students will learn how to search TOXNET for toxicology and environmental information.
