SACS News & Notes

The SACS Leadership Committee is reviewing the audit committee reports that address the university's compliance with SACS core requirements and comprehensive standards. The audit reports will comprise the core of the university’s compliance certification documentation, which is due in August. The reports are available on the A&M-Kingsville SACS web page under “Status Chart.” Comments on the reports are welcomed by the SACS Leadership Committee and may be submitted through the web page under “Comments and Suggestions.”

Dr. Stephen Sedory, chair of the General Education Committee, will oversee an external, standardized review of the university’s general education curriculum this spring. The review will utilize the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency tests in selected general education classes in all colleges beginning in early February.

A review of the Texas A&M-Kingsville System Center-San Antonio also is planned for February 16-18. The visit is required by SACS policy because the System Center is considered a branch campus of A&M-Kingsville and is a substantive change in the administration and organization of the campus.

Share Your Christmas
I just wanted to take up your time once more to say a big THANK YOU. Once again, the Share Your Christmas campaign went extremely well, yet again outshining the previous year. We surpassed 2002 by nearly 150 food items and almost $500.

The entire campus community collected 956 food items and $1,474. What a great job!!! Some of the community went above and beyond the call, making generous donations. You know who you are…thanks so much.

I was on the air for about 15 seconds this morning, just long enough to give our totals. I was joined by several members of the Javelina women’s track team. They were on hand because the track team won the money-collecting competition between our student athletic teams. Athletics along brought in over $270…all coins!

A special thanks goes out to Al Tapia and Richard Mettey from KTAI who again this year hauled boxes of food in the radio station van. But the thanks don’t stop there. A round of applause goes out to my co-workers in public affairs who helped carry, count and collect all the food and money, especially our dedicated student workers.

Finally, I want to thank the student organizations who assisted in the collection. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Since we gave our donation very early in the day, I don’t know how we compare to the other organizations in the Coastal Bend, but in my book, we are number one. The administration, faculty, staff and students at A&M-Kingsville proved again we are the best in South Texas.

Thanks again all your help and support!

Go Hogs!!!
