HISTORY SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO A&M-KINGSVILLE STUDENTS
(KINGSVILLE, February 17, 1997) -- The Department of History at Texas A&M University-Kingsville awarded three history students with scholarships for the Spring 1997 semester on Feb. 10.
Recipients are junior, senior or graduate level students and were selected based on exemplary academic performance. All three of this semester's recipients had grade point averages ranging from 3.44 to 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. The history scholarships are awarded each spring and fall semesters.
Senior Michelle Riley of Corpus Christi received the Mildred Chiuminatto Scholarship for $150. The history major said she was very grateful for Mrs. Chiuminatto's support that funded textbooks. Riley, a recipient of the Fall 1996 Chiuminatto award and of a History Memorial Scholarship in Spring 1996, plans to pursue a master's degree in history following May graduation.
The Chiuminatto Scholarship, established by the retired Kleberg Bank employee and avid historian, has awarded funding to the highest-ranking undergraduate student majoring or minoring in history at A&M-Kingsville since 1992.
Junior Debra Ann Jones of Kingsville and senior Ana Valdez of Eagle Pass each received History Memorial Scholarships for $100. The History Memorial Scholarships were established in memory of alumni and faculty.
